Guys
The trans in my EL Mont is giving me some odd intermitent problems. In the last couple of months the following has happened about 4-5 times (I am worried it suggests there is a bigger problem coming my way) Problem 1: Occasionally whilst driving on Freeway at 100 car will drop into 2nd for 5 secs then shift back up to overdrive. Then behave normally Problem 2: Occasionally whilst accelarating the trans will slam from 1st to 2nd then 2nd to 3rd. Then behave normally Any idea's how i explain this to a mechanic and what its likely to be? |

It sounds similar to my problem. You will need the mechanic to drive it and feel it themselves.
I was told it was a solenoid problem but haven't got it fixed yet because I'm thinking about a manual conversion. Though I'm sure other people on here will have some ideas for you. |

i had a 94 ef that did the same thing was told that it was a solidniod prob so had them done,and made no difference, eventually the box droped in to 1st at 100ks(was good fun in the wet) and stayed there then spat all the fluid on the road,800 bucks later and two weeks of walking to work,problem solved,so dont always believe the idea about the solidniod,on the other hand the damage may already be done,ask ur mechanic to drive it first before u spend a heap on it.

Then behave normally Any idea's how i explain this to a mechanic and what its likely to be? My auto has done similar things. I have had it downshift to 1st at 110k's - that gets your attention! Also, when shifting manually, it sometimes will not stay in the lower gear, ie - shift back to 2nd for a corner, and as soon as the engine revs drop a bit lower, it shifts back into OD. Not fun on a tight corner. I'm told it's a common thing with BTR's, so I will be doing the T5 shuffle sometime soon.
