G'day.
I have a Ford AUII (year 2000) and have noticed a strange noise coming from underneath the front passengers side of the car. Noise has been happening for past 5 days. When I turn the steering wheel to the right, I get an odd noise from the front left side. I don't know if its the shock absorber, steering rack playing up, or something else. I never get that noise / sound when I turn the steering wheel to the left. I had the power steering pump replaced about 5 months ago. Would anyone know what or where that noise / sound is caused by? Cheers, Peter |

Xrstu,
Hi, I just changed all the lower ball joints 5 months ago. Had to fit oversize ball joints. Difficult to describe the noise, I noticed power steering fluid was a bit low, I drive about 1,000 klm per week. The noise in question is only heard when the front left side wheel is turning to the right. On the odd occasion the noise is also heard when turning left but only momentarily. I don't know if its a worn shock absorber or maybe power steering rack. I cannot see any oil leaks. I've bounced the front of the car a few times and cannot detect the noise. |

Try tightening your power steering rack and or replace the nyloc nuts also check the upper and lower control arm bushes and also tighten the shock tower bolts on both L&R towers

Power steering rack is tight, nyloc nuts were renewed 5 months ago when I replaced the lower control arm bushes and bolts (front and rear). Shock tower bolts are tight to specification.
Will check upper control arm later this week. Upper control arm bushes were replaced about 2 years ago. Cheers |
