Gday

Im looking around to get my BTR rebuilt and built up stronger. The auto has done ~275,000ks and it still going ok. I will be putting more power through it soon and i know it will s**t itself. Anyone know what i should be asking for to make the BTR handle more power? Hoping for it to handle around 300rwkw.

Cheers

Have you looked into building up a C4 or C10 auto? There's more options when it comes to mods.

I asked a transmission place about getting better parts for the BTRs and there's not much available. The valve assembly inside is nothing special. I only know of people fitting Kevlar bands, shift kits & bigger transmission coolers. This still doesn't address the long 1st gear.

ok yeah i was hoping to still keep the BTR trans. I have 3.9 lsd which helps the 1st gear so im not worried about that. I have a electric shiftkit in mine at the moment but thinking about getting a proper one when its built. Any ideas on prices?

Cheers

I remember seeing this ad for a modified BTR in the For Sale section. Looks like you need about $3000.

Yeah that was mine, that fairlane was putting out about 200rwkw and it seemed to handle it fine, anything over 300rwkw with a BTR I wouldn't bother, all the ones you see in XR6T's are a hit and a miss when they're built they work for a while but end up dying after a while. I think Dominello build their BTR's and provide a warranty, but they cost around the 4-5k mark.

I'd just get a MV Auto's valvebody and hope for the best, costs around $500 for their valvebody and they rate it to 400HP I think it was?

does anyone actually know what it is in the BTR that fails with the higher powered engines?
what is the weak point in these boxs? the valve body? what actually happens when they fail?

i think i read somwer it is the box itself flexing. causing internal damage of sorts.

From my thinking...the body of the box flexes, causing things internally to be out of alignment...such as bearings and mounting points. This means all the gears/shafts will be out of alignment and s**t can fail left, right and centre.

oh this is not good news, I am interested in the same topic, toughen it up before getting my T tuned.

Only called one local place so far and they couldn't advise anything other than fix it after it's broken. They've tuned cars to 330-360rwkw with them intact.. that's way more than what I'm after, but there's gotta be some preventative measures, belts? clutches? I can't afford to replace the entire box.

I have been speaking to my trans dude and he said he has a guy that does fully built BTR's that can handle a fair bit of power they are between $3500-$4000. Il see whats done to them and what power they take

He is talking about DTM and there good but it still ecu controlled and not a full manual trans unless u go motec/wolf ecu and u can control valve body.

For that sort of money i would be going a Jatco RE4R03A which is the big Jatco where u find them hehind 4WD, 300zx, 20B cosmo.

Call GZM and speak to Goran http://www.gzm.com.au/index.htm

The Jatco RE4R03A is a 3spd with over drive and lock up converter which is awesome for the highway. This jatco has gone mid 8z in a GTR and yes there is conversion to 4WD for them, so there very strong and reliable.

Paul the onwer of Kea's is back in business so email him as well service.keas@hotmail.com

op your in melbourne there are many places here that can do it!
1 yarravalley used by nizpro in the early days but no longer i believe?
2 kewish in dandy
3 prestons in campbellfield

pm or call me for the best value builder 0405 400 572 or take the hint!

you can get certain gear sets that are stronger and couple them with certain clutch drums and it makes them safe once assembled and modified to 380+ rwkw and 1300nm of tourque rw before the planetaries shatter!

trust me we can shatter them on demand!

ohh paul keas is good too i'm told by trustworthy mates but hope your wallet is full for a conversion as i'm told he hates the btr and suggests a gm box for the ford!
