whats involved in strengthening the BWT5 box??
i've heard that you replace the tapered roller bearings with roller bearings is there anything else that need doing??

1) Take T5 box
2) Throw it in the bin
3) Fit T56 and be happy :)

^^^^ indeed.

The T5 is a great box for a NA 6, more grunt than that and she'll be testing the limits, especially 3rd gear.

Alot of the V8 and turbo blokes that are putting more than stockish grunt into em are picking up the pieces.

A t56 or TKO600 are the best alternatives if you wanna keep the manual.

Last time i checked around, T56's were going for sort of 3 grand...
And im not too sure, but ive been told that TKO's have a straight cut 5th gear..

FK me, i'm not a bank... I think i'll just keep the T5 and strengthen it..

I was just paroosing the Mal Wood site, and i noticed that they refer to the t5 as a tremec box.. i thought they were a borg warner creation???!??

Are they the same?? Or different??

u can get a t5z which is stronger apparently... would have to ring a trans shop to find out

not really interested in buying a new box as the one I have is in perfect condition, I just want to make it a bit stronger to take 200-250 rwkw..

not sure how strong you can build them but my t5 box is out of a EA Turbo race car not sure what was done to it but seem to hold up fine getting flogged around a track all day. :D
