A few days ago my RHS front wheel bearings s**t themselves, it was so bad that the bearings had melted away and the nut was threaded onto the stub axle. anyways i got another stub axle from the wreckers and put it in., my car is an ef non abs and the stub axle i got was off an ea / eb.
my question is are these parts the same? having them side by side they looked the same although for some reason my steering wheel is out like 15 degrees now. this shouldnt be the case since i didnt turn the tie rod end or touch any steering component. my mechanic also found this odd. so my question is are these stubb axles identical?? cheers.

I've heard of someone having the same problem when they put an EA-ED spindle and LCA in an EL, so they very well could be different. A call to Ford Spares to compare part numbers would tell you.
Did you hammer the bearing races out of the hubs and replace them? Leaving the old races in can cause the exact same problems you've had. |

you should always go and get a steering alignment anyway if you replace bits like this, they'd only need to be 1 or 2 mm slightly different - different casts? and your wteering will be out.

yeah i changed the parts in the rotors as well. i dont understand why the steering is so far out though. they looked identical too... hmmmm you can tell the wheel is really out by just looking at it, plus going around corners that wheel squeals. ahhh bloody wreckers.

i did balljoints on my ef, and i bought exchange stub axles with ball joints in them for $140.
i put it all back together and the alignment was out 50mm. i coulnt drive the bloody thing, lucky pedders is 200m away from where i was. $38 later and it was sweet as before, but without the knocks.

this part was made for a car costing a total of $30,000, so don't expect it to have small tolerances, that is why you have adjustable rack ends/tie rod ends so the toleranes can be absorbed.
and any time you do any thing suspension or steering related an allignment is required, as even if something is just undone and then re-tightened it will not line up exactly as before.
