They're taper fit...
You hit them with a hammer to loosen them... Don't hit the ball joint though... Take the steering tie rod end... The rack has the ball joint on it and it goes through a hole on the right... You hit the side of the upright where the hole is... So your hole is straight down (vertical) you hit the side of it horrizontally with a hammer til it works loose... If the top one fell out then it wasn't tight enough because they are all taper locks to stop them coming loose on you... Same with the bottom one... Ball joint is in the upright... So you hit the side of the bottom wishbone with a hammer... The vibration though the steel works the taper loose... Cheers, Tim

depends how hard they've worked together and how tight the nut was... But mine took a number of good hard belts with a heavy hammer...
Cheers, tim

Cheers mate legend, couple of hard solid hits the tie rod came straight out and then same with lower ball joint, hopefully other side will be just as sweet, spent quite a while this morning trying to get the stub axle off, used a hammer and was off in minutes,

We're here to help mate... Make sure you do them up real tight... The taper will lock up again... You never want anything suspension coming loose on you... Enjoy...

first side went together all sweet but the other side when i went to tighten back up the tie rod the thread just twists around with the nut when tightenting up, the other side didnt do it so does that mean a new tie rod?

they will often spin around, just check for excess movement to see if ithe tie rod end needs replacing.....
place a jack under the tie rod end and pump up the jack until the tie rod end taper locates tight and then proceed to tighten the tie rod end nut..... |

If hitting hard with hammer --- Unwind the nut, but leave the nut sitting on the end of the thing you are hitting by a few turns, otherwise you may root the thread and find getting a nut back on damn near impossible.....
Also means that if it gives way with a bullet like thump that it doesn't fly into your bare toes as it will stop against the nut. Of course, if replacing with everything new, WHO CARES? Just pull out an angle grinder and choppity chop chop those darn stubborn axles. |

did try to explain not to hit the ball joint itself... You damage them... If replacing then yes it doesn't matter... You hit the piece of steel with the hole on the side and it works the ball joint loose... So you hit the edge of the top and bottom wishbone for their respective ball joint... And hit the edge of the lug on the upright to loosen to the tie rod end... If that makes sense...
