if its a tie rod end, then i recomend you getting it new as they are only $25 ea from repco etc, and some places sell them for like $20 ea.
unless of course your tight on cash or doing it for rwc.

ball joint removal tool for tie rod ends?
i have never needed one yet, to remove it just undo the nut and a few whacks with a hammer pops it out. for install just push up while your tightening the nut to stop it from spinning.

thats why you leave the nut done up or upside down if its a castle nut. you should be ok.
I learnt the hard way the first time i did one, and mushroomed the top of the tie rod end. i was only 17 and not very clued on

best way to remove tie rod end etc are to actually hit them on the side not on the top. not on the nut itself but where the shaft goes thru the steering.
hitting on the top like some have said can damage the tie rod.

You hit on the side of the knuckle not down on the nut.
