Hiya folks,
Not too fussed about this but i just wanted to know anyway.. Ive just installed a set of superlow front and back springs using pedders suspension. Sports rider struts and gas shocks and what ever else.. Thing i wanted to know is, what are the legalities on this thing? I mean, the back seems to sit a little lower then the front. The guy mentioned something about 555mm from the rim to the arch or what ever..not too sure what he was on about.. Also, when i get 18" rims or 17" or what ever, what will make the car look higher? Thx for ur help folks -doof!

there is a couple of figures depending what laws your going by.
100mm ground clearance. eyebrow (centre of rim to arch) i think this is around 335mm or so?

I had superlows in my EL Fairmont Ghia, the height from hub to guard on the rear was 325mm and the front was 335mm. Got done by the cops for being too low (7mm under the 100mm legal height) I only had the springs in for 2 weeks. Running lows now and all is legal.

Everyone I know uses the height of their notebook, 100mm, to measure legality. That means everything under the car must be higher than 100mm from the road.
I've always found lows are a lot more comfortable than super lows antway. |

as long as you keep atleast one third of the original suspension travel and have 100mm clearence to the lowest point of the car you should be right. I would suggest that you go speak to your insurance company about the wheels and suspension and make sure your not doing something that will void your insurance.

pedders take their measurements from the bottom of the rim to the guard. don't know why but they are the only ones to measure this way. thats why the measurement they gave you is a lot more than the 'eyebrow' figure quoted above of 335mm.
had my car over the pits when i bought it (regency for those s.a. members) 335mm is the height they gave as well but was no mention or measuring of ground clearance. i always thought the old rule of thumb was a coke can but thats a bit over 100mm.

As I mentioned earlier just check with your insurance. My car has been lowered and is legal and it has been looked at and messured by pedders, but my insurance company is going to cancel my insurance of friday because it lowered.
Mind you they dont know how much. Pedders messured my car yesterday and is 83mm lower at the front and 90mm lower at the rear from standard height. If I remmember right the 550mm messurement you were told is standard xr height |

kings superlows on a e series should sit with anywhere from no gap between tyre and guard to about a 2 finger gap. all cars are slightly different.
pics of my eb in gallery. fronts are superlow - 345mm centre of hub to guard (eyebrow height). rears are 335mm. superlows will sit a bit higher at the rear than that.

The height looks good, doesn't look like cop bait, and surely doesn't look standard either. Very clean. |

Well folks! Today i removed the complete tow bar assembly, and i tell you what, the car now sits way higher then it was. Way more leagal then it used to look which is great
Now its a little over legal limit. Given a couple more weeks, should sink a bit, so should look perfect ! What i want to know now is, will 18" rims make it look lower or higher?
