Hey guys
Just recently purchased my Xr6 Ford Falcon Fg 2008 Love it with a Passion, brought the car from a private sale off the owner who had some mods done to it. Been lowered on 19's (which is nice) but i have come to a problem that's been bothering me and just wondering if anyone can help or give me some advice or lead me in the right direction on how to or what do with the issue. My issue is I recently hit a pot hole that just appeared on our roads (which i drive regularly) out no where, ever since then just hearing a noise (Like somethings catching) with the suspension every time I either went over a bump or turned slowly in any direction. Quickly popped home to park up and have a look (Correct me if Im wrong) it seems the Upper Control Arm inner bolt is catching/hitting the spring every bump or turn that i do. I managed to jack the car up and removed the wheel for a closer look and the bolt has made a little cut in the spring. Just hoping anyone out there thats had this issue is able to help a lad out? Would i need to get alignment done? or is this a easy fix? Thanks guys appreciate the advice Apologies for the photo quality was taken at night

Maybe the bolts for the upper control arm have come loose? moved?

don't know much about the FG model [or most others lol] ... but is it the correct spring for it or has the spring moved? .. spring looks real close to control arm mount.

If the lowering springs were used with standard shocks, the spring may have moved out of position at the top when you hit the pothole. A shorter shock will keep the spring under compression when shock travel is increased. Are the springs Super Low?

As previously stated check that the spring is in the correct position. Another cause could be that the caber/caster correct kit (as seen in the photos looks to be either nolathane or pedders) is the wrong kit for the fitted spring causing excessive shimming during the wheel alignment thus bringing the bolt into contact with the spring. There are two different kits available depending on the spring used. One kit used for standard height and first stage lowered springs (25-30mm down) and another kit that is used with superlow and ultralow springs (45-60mm down). A decent suspension shop should be able to identify the kit by the sizing/measurement of the brackets.

Awesome Guys
Thanks for the advice, Im unsure of the brand nor the right type thats great for this car. But the previous owner said that it was done by a tire company named Bling here in New Zealand which he mentioned that they specialize in FPV/HSV Mags and Suspension kits. Also checked that all bolts are tight everything seem to be ok. The previous onwer did say that they are on super low springs Im kinda new to forum thing apologies if i didnt reply in time or havent replied directly to your guys post. I can say I have checked the other side and it seems the same issue is happening on that side just now as bad as this side. Im getting it checked in my hometown by a suspension specialist who deals with lowered cars will keep you guys updated. Cheers guys |

Thanks Simon yea will look into that Im so new to this also learning alot just wish i had more of a clue what your talking about so i can fix it lol....I can take more pics if you like maybe your find out more from there maybe. Another question? wheres the best place to Jack a Fg? Like i know the usual place where you get your normal jack where your spare tire is but is there any other places? |

Agree! i just hope either that mounts to the upper control arm arent bent or the control arm isnt bent. |

The part number that suits superlow springs is "35-0724". As for your jacking points if you look under the side of your car you will see a pressed steel frame rail approximately 300mm in from the sill. Other than that the jacking points would be the center of the front and rear subframes. Take care not to lift on the diff due to the possibility of damaging the diff mounting bushes and also not to jack on the engine sump for obvious reasons. If you can get on a hoist then the lift points are the sills, making sure the vehicle is centrally balanced. |

Awesome info thank you Simon will take some pics for ya let ya know the part number etc, my uncle owns a work shop but charges me like $40hr just to use the hoist lol so ima stick to the jack Lmfao |
