Has anybody experianced a loud clunk/grawnch from the frount end of their car - particullay under breaking and cornering. Everything that moves has been replaced - bushes, ball joints, tie rods , roters, pads, brgs, springs , shocks - three workshops unable to find, including local Ford Franchise - any ideas?

Not too sure, sounds like youve covered almost the lot lol!
Only thing i can say is there was a recall on el's to do with clunks when cornering/braking, often heard while entering driveways, ill see if i can find a bit of info later on.

Make sure everything is torqued up properly.. Especially the bolts that attach the camber kit to the arms.

I have had all bolts tightened as tight as I can get them - I'm at a bit of a loss - I would be interested to read about that recall! The clunk is especially bad when you enter driveways as you mentioned :?

Me too. My car isn't making any noises but I didn't know there was a recall on the ELs. I'm interested to read about it.

WOW- I'm not the only poor bastard with this problem! I have a EFII Fairmont that has the very same thing. It happens mainly under heavy braking, driveways & if I change from reverse to foward quickly (not the uni's, it's in the front end). It's a very heavy klunk that you can really feel under the floor. I too, have got new springs, shocks, Z bar bushes, upper & lower ball joints, wheel bearings and a wheel alignment. The guy's at two very well known suspension places don't know what it is. The place that did the wheel alignment said it aligned better than most EF & EL's. SOMEBODY- PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! :(

Yep, 222 is all that rolled off the line. Exports to NZ would have come out of that 222.

Happened to me after I put my Pacemaker extractors on. At first I put it down to the steering shaft under the extractors being heat affected but probably completely 2 different things.

my headers are very close to the sway bar which with some design of headers may be a design fault. How ever I took my sway bar off altogether to see if this was the issue on my car - drove it around the block and the noise was still there?

Back to the drawing board!

I know this thread is a few ys old, but did anyone find the cause of this knock while braking? I have an AU (hence the nic) with the same problem, so sounds like there might be a recall on it. Anyone know of one?

I dont get the knock switching from D to R. Just when stopping at slow speeds. Having it checked tomorrow (for Upper Ball Joint, Wheel Bearing (possibly needing tightening slightly), Caliper (read somewhere if shims can leave a gap and cause knock), and everything else associated with suspension). Suspension (struts and springs), new as of last year and all bushes look good and tight. Only leak I could see was from the upper ball joint I think it is called (on the upper swing arm). anyway, update here when I know more.
