My suspension is showing a few signs of wear and tear and I was starting to get a little annoyed with the way it was riding and pulling so I took it to my local pedders for a suspension quote (I'd taken it to my local beaurepairs a few weeks earlier too so I had a rough idea what to expect)

Basically beaurepairs and pedders both said the following:

* front shocks/struts and springs are weak and need replacement
* front tie rods have wear (L/H is excessive)
* P/S rack is worn/leaking (~$420 for replacement)
* watts linkage bushes worn/offset
* front wheel bearings have play on them
* various other bushes are worn or rusty

Pedders recommended a castor/camber kit to fix the uneven wear on the tyres. I'm planning to get alloys early next year anyway so I didn't mind that too much.

Pedders quoted me ~$2,150 for all the work including full bush kit, camber/castor kit, all the usual stuff like wheel alignment and lowering 30mm to roughly XR height. (thats the other reason I let pedders quote me for the c/c kit)

Pedders didnt quote me for new shocks for the rear, is that normal to only quote only for new springs when lowering it?

My car is sitting at 590mm front and 605mm rear ride heights, would going 30mm down be about the same as factory XR heights?

On another note does anyone have any ideas what might be causing the back of my car to feel a little sloppy at times.. like the wheels have big flat spots on them (which they don't) and generally feels unsettled? I think alot of is from the front being so unsettled and bumpy.. thows the a** end out.

gee that scares me!! i wanna drop my car but can no where near afford 2000, my car is an ef futura with 168 on the clock... rear shocks need replacing as far as i can tell but otherwise no uneven tyre wear :S hope i dont need to spend more than 700 for new shocks and springs all round!

if u lower it get the camber kit, or it will tear your tyres up quick.
it will sit like an xr in terms of height
distortion, $700 will cover you for springs/shocks, if u plan to do it yourself.

Beaurepairs quoted me for new bushes, front shocks and springs, rear springs and new power steering rack.

If you take the cost of the power steering rack (~$420) off the beaurepairs quote, it probably comes out somewhere near the $800 mark.

Only had the car for just on a year.. the RAC inspection when I brought it didnt find much wrong with it. Guess its just small problems that have become worse over time and 20,000km

geez i feel like a post whore in this topic.
I ain't a mechanic, i am an auto-elec apprentice, but we used to do mechanics where i work, so i know quite a bit about it, wish i was a mechanic, being a sparky is s**t sometimes.
