just a question, how much are sway bars roughly??? looking at getting front and rear.
what are some good brands? does anyone have any pics? can u mount them yourself? i realise it reduces the roll in the car, but how does it actually work? does it just stiffen up the chasis?? cheers

Bars are dirt cheap, and a VERY WORTHWHILE upgrade if you like your beast to handle.
I got whiteline non-adjustable front and rear. Front is 30mm, and was $130, rear is 24mm (from memory) and was $150, (more complex design, it goes over the diff). I recommend Whiteline, top quality product IMO, comes with all bushes and required Lithium Grease. You can also get the EL GT bar from Ford, I think Uglybob got one recently, only payed $80 for it, that bar is 27mm. Kmac also do them. Brands are much of a muchness really, whatever you can get. It's only a metal bar Pics of my Whiteline Bars... Easy to mount yourself, it's a bit like a puzzle though, weaving it through all your suspension components The only things to remember are, use Lithium Grease (should come with the bars) on the rubbers, especially the inside of the 'D' rubbers. Secondly, only fully tighten all the bolts when the car is at normal ride height (on the ground). It's a pain in the a***, but necessary if you don't want to root the rubbers. Thirdly, only tighten the swaybar links tight enough that the rubbers don't deform. Swaybars (or anti-roll bars, which is there actual role), in simple terms, act as a link between the two sides of the car. They prevent bodyroll. They prevent the inner wheel from lifting as much, and the outer wheel from compressing as much (In theory reducing lateral grip.. but I won't get into that ) The best thing about them though, is different thicknesses on each end of the car can easily change the cars balance. Getting understeer? Get a thicker(stiffer) rear bar. To much oversteer? Thicker front bar. It's alot more complicated then that, but if you're interested in learning more, head to http://www.whiteline.com.au , theres some very good reading on there. Hope that essay helps!

Depends if you want to fiddle wit hthe oversteer/understeer balance in your car or not..
It's not really necessary. I've found taht even with the extra weight of the gas tank in my car, the balance is very neutral. A touch of understeer, but in your car, assuming you don't have extra weight in the back, it would be as close to neutral as you can get.

yer the ute got the same front sway bar as the el gt which as far as i know was 29mm not 27.
Also it isnt recommended that you go too stiff with the rear sway bar until you get an LSD otherwise the inside wheel will spin up a lot more. |
