Hi everyone! I am new to this group and i am having a problem with my EF. I was driving down the highway on Saturday when the battery light stayed on, heat gauge was going up and down, fuel gauge went to empty, speedo stopped and the car went into limp home mode. If anyone has any suggestions to what could be wrong i would be very greatful. I am normally pretty good when it comes to problems with cars but this one has got me beat.
Tracy.

Hey, and welcome to the forums!
Well, it could be as simple as your battery on its way out. Ive had a few flat batteries and they really can do funny things when their isnt enough charge in the battery. All of the things you mentioned could be contributed to this Its worth a look, hopefully it is this cos batteries are relatively cheap compared to some other parts on these things!

Hi spudEF,
Thank you for the welcome. Yes we were thinking it may be the battery. When we put the bonnet up after getting the car home there was water on the battery. The battery wasn't empty and the radiator bottle wasn't leaking. Tracy.

Maybe pull them off, sand them down a bit. Cant hurt to rule out all of the little things first, you just may strike it lucky!

could possibly be the alternator too
they seem to cause the gauge issues you mentioned. |

We replaced the alternator last year, but the gauges never went haywire only the battery light stayed on. Anyway we are going to check all these things today and see what we come up with.

We have replaced the battery terminals and replaced the battery as it was still under warranty, but no change. When the car is turned to accessories all the gauges show up but once the car is started they stop working and the battery light stays on.

hmm. I read in my Eb's user manual the other day that when battery charge is too low it automatically puts the gearbox in limp home mode. Perhaps if you disconnect the battery for a few mins (10-15 mins - to allow the ecu to reset) and then turn the car on again. I had a problem with my cluster lights flickering on startup and the ecu reset fixed it.
Hope this helps

Yes all the fuses are ok. Could it be the wiring to the battery. It seems that when the car is just on accessories everything is working but once the car is started i lose everything and the battery light stays on.

yeh double check the terminals are nice n tight. It could also be the negative wire where it connects to the chassis of the car. Make sure they are all tight.

Ok our negative goes from the battery to the engine block. Does that matter. Yes all terminals are tight.
