I am planning a manual conversion and this might be a stupid question but can I install the Bellhousing to the motor first and then install the gearbox next. If it can be done it would make lifting it a lot easier.

Thats the way I did mine, makes things lighter to lift, plus, you dont have the box in the way when trying to do up the top bellhousing bolts.

if/when i ever get round to doing one good chance im going to use a hoist. sorry this probably doesnt help you any.
the only other thing i can suggest is get as much height as possible, maybe you can modify a trolley jack to hold your trans to lift it into place

I always put the bellhousing in first, makes the job HEAPS easier.

Late entry - definitely, do the bellhousing first.
If you're having difficulty getting to the top RHS bellhousing bolts, jack the rear of the engine up (keep an eye on the top rad hose), and get to them from the engine bay with a ring spanner.
