I just bought a reco'd T5 and have been told NOT to use Auto trans oil as recomended by the manufacturer, as this can cause the input shaft gears to burn out. Instead you should use valvoline duragear 75/85. Just thought this info could be useful for anyone doing an oil change in their T5.

Dextron is supposed to be only with lubrisol additive. Use that and youll have no problems.

ford reccomend a mineral 75w-90 gear oil for T5's behind V8's, i'm using Mobil SHC 75w90 in my manual Sprint, no probs shifting when cold, it eliminated an annoying 4th/5th gear whine, and best of all..... $15.20 for 2L of the stuff..... cheaper than dex 3

When I tried 75w-90 gear oil in my T5 I couldn't change gears when cold and the syncro's were very noisey. After puttting in Castrol TransmaxZ AFT oil and lubizol I've had no problems. I've recommend TransmaxZ to alot of mates and they have never had any issues.

I've only heard recommendations of the brand and oil name (a little bit of early planning for a T5Z conversion). i use fuchs 75w90, shifts nice but can be a little slow when its really cold. dextron is used for easier shifts when its cold ive heard but gives less protection

just been reading thru the technicians notes for when the EB's were released, and according to the notes, the specified oil for V8's was a 70w90 gear oil..... and the ED's owners manual specifies an 75w90..... go figure

Best value for performance oil : Try Castrol Syntrans B. It was the gear oil specified for the XR6 Turbos, helps imporve the life of the box.
Best oil period: Redline shockproof lightweight. But costs around $30/ litre.

Some prefer a full synthetic, either its Amsoil or Mobil 1. The popular one was Mobil 1 and I'd heard it took 10k before having another oil change.
Btw, how about cold air intakes? What can you recommend? |
