final drive is .68 in auto to .72 in manual. that small change will not increase his revs by 400rpm. manuals are more efficient even with the shorter (ever so slight) gearing. its the torque converter that stuffs up the auto economy.
broken record here - swap the speedo drive gears over so you are using your original one out of the auto. this will suit your diff. obviously the car the t5 came from had a 3.45 diff.

Cool man I just took a guess I thought that it would make a difference of about that much. Just so I know for future possible conversions (I have s**t auto) how much do you think it would rise by?

Now that more info is known, I agree with using the drive gear from the autobox - that should be all that is needed to fix your issue - assuming the diff hasn't been changed.
If you want to have a play around with tyre sizes/diffs, etc, have a look at the spreadsheet in http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34315, be sure to read the thread.

I just did my conversion in my EL and i used the speedo thingy on the T5. Box came out of an EF so I am guessing I don't have to change anything but ECU and wiring. Anyways at 100km/hr in 5th the needle is just shy of the 2000 mark...so about 1950 or something.

This might be a silly question but WTF has the tacho got to do with the speedo cog? tach gets a signal from the engine coil or similar, yes? speedo gets a signal from the speedo gear on the gearbox, yes?
if you`re siting at the lights, do you get a tacho reading? if so, going by 90% of the posts in this thread, you`d also have a speedo reading while sitting there... @the OP, it`s prolly just a case of a slightly different ratio between overdrive gears between auto and manual boxes JAIKAI |

he is right, but some dont rev as high as others, my t5 came out of a wagon with a 2.89 diff ratio, and my car has a 3.08 one in it.
so at 100 its doing 2100 -2200rpm and the auto used to do 1800rpm. haven't done a really long trip with it yet, but around town the manual is far better on fuel than the auto was. im getting about 11.8 per hundred round town when it feels like being good

Speedo will be out by a % factor, say its 10% for the gear he has in (just a wild guess). So sitting at the lights, both read 0kph. When the speedo is pointing at 100kph, the car is actually going at 110kph So that explains why the car seems to rev higher at 100kph now, because he is really going at 110kph. Put the right speedo gear in, the speedo is accurate at 100kph at the rpm has magically fallen a few hundred.

all you need to do is put the auto speedo sensor cog on the manual sensor spline and it will read properly anyway.

I'll change the speedo drive gear over and see how i go. Speedo i didn't think was out much at all, but then again, the ford is pretty comfortable to drive so it's hard to tell road speed. By what some ppl are posting, it would be about 10KPH out.
Will be climbing under the car tonight, i'll see if i get a chance to swap the speedo drive gear. Cheers ToranaGuy

JAIKAI It won't, but the point people are making is that his speedo is probably out due to the wrong gear, so thats why its pulling more revs at 100km/h then he thought it would.
