Pulled the speed drive cogs from both the Auto & manual boxes, they are both Green 21 teeth cogs. Forgot to check the diff while i was under the car.

Cheers

hmmm thats thrown a bit of a twist up then. do you have access to a gps or anything to check your speedo to confirm if it is reading right.

did you count the teeth on the cogs. i assume you did. i think there is a light green and a dark green though. if you didn't count the teeth, make sure they are the same.

otherwise thats a bit weird if all you did was change the gearbox over. maybe the gear inside the box that the cog drives is different. i doubt it but just throwing up an idea.

as mentioned a thousand times earlier, the overdrive ratio's are different but not enough to increase it by 400rpm.

You'll find the speedo drive cog in the manual box is differant from the one in the auto.
You may just need to get a cog with lesser teeth to rectify the problem.

I did count the teeth on the cogs, and they also have the same part number on them.

I don't have access to anything that can accurate say what my speed is. I've gotta go out soon, i'll be taking the car for a test spin, i've just resolved an electrical issue that could possibly make the speedo & tacho read wrong.

Cheers

dunno if anyone had done the breakdown but here we go.

assuming 235/45/17 tyres

--3.08 diff
EB2+ box : 100km/h = 1829 RPM
EA box : 100km/h = 1981 RPM

--3.23 diff
EB2+ box : 100km/h = 1918 RPM
EA box : 100km/h = 2078 RPM

--3.45 diff
EB2+ box : 100km/h = 2048 RPM
EA box : 100km/h = 2220 RPM

those figures are worked out with an excel spreadsheet, so rpm's are about spot on, might be 1-2 rpm out ;)

The output shaft 'drive' gears are different colours - you'll find the BTR 4speed will most likely be white, the EA and later T5's seem to be a purple/maroon colour - I've found both have the same helical groove count.
The auto gear won't fit on a T5 output shaft - It'll be too loose.

So the 'driven' gear should be the same for auto or manual, of course different diffs will vary this. I think you'll find in the EB that 3.27:1 is used, as 3.23:1 wasn't introduced til later, perhaps EF/EL (correct me if I'm wrong).
Be wise to use the calculators mentioned earlier in the thread, and make sure the auto one was a correct selection to start off with.

My Gregories has the diff ratios listed as:

EB Series 2 - 3.27:1
ED - 3.08:1 or 3.27:1

Cheers

Couple of things I'm assuming:
You've used the same speedo drive gear, and the car runs 15" rims.

I suspect the T5 you've fitted is an EA one (despite you saying it's from an ED).
Have a read of http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38250 and check the g/box for the 'roofing nail'.

My Eb is running 17's, 235/45's. I used the speedo drive gear that was in the T5.

The T5 was from a factory ED 5spd, low kms, even had a relativly new genuine clutch fork & clutch setup. 115k kms on the car. I had a read of the thread you sugested, and went thru some pics of the engine & T5 while i had them outta the car, and i DO HAVE that " roofing nail " near the reverse switch! So it's not an EA box! I was 99% sure it was a ED box, as i 've still got the rest of that damn car in my front yard! I bought a whole ED GLI 5spd from the Auctions ( pickles ) to do the swap.

Pic of engine & T5 in my gallery, http://www.fordmods.com/forums/gallery. ... f=9895&m=0

I did the conversion, all parts from the factory 5spd, OMFG what a pain that was, but i love the EB with a 5spd. I have used the manual ECU & manual gearbox wiring loom. :D No wiring mods there.

I take it the speedo drive for the GLI may not suit my GHIA. I've got my auto in the shed atm, was thinking about fitting it & my other I6 into the ed then selling the car. I'll take a look at it's speedo drive & possibly swap them over.

I just looked @ the time, damn i gotta get to bed, have to be up in about 5hrs. * EEK *

Thanks for the help guys, greatly appreciated.

Cheers

ToranaGuy
will it start for set up purposes with the auto ecu?

I had mine out on the hiway yesterday, EA with T5 and 3.27 diff gears, and 235/60R15 tyres on it. Does 1800rpm @ 100kmh in 5th.
Those tyres are taller than std, as in 205/65R15.

If you're referring to an auto/manual change, yes it will, but you need to join the starter relay wires at the inhibitor switch to motor it over.
The engine will idle high (around 1200 rpm), and EF/El's will have the thermo fans roaring.
Otherwise the car will drive.
