Hey there,

Since i've done my T5 conversion, i notice that my rpm @ 100kms is higher than it used to be, which i thought was rather strange. I thought it would be about the same. With the old auto, i used to sit on about 1800rpm @ 100kms, now i seem to be sitting on about 2200rpm @ 100kms with the T5, which is from a ED. I'm not sure what ratio diff i have in the EB, i believe it's a 3:23:1, i'm fairly sure it's LSD, car's a fairmont ghia. Give the car enough stick & it handles like a LSD equipt (sp?) car.

Could it just be my tacho out or did the rpm increase? I'm wondering if i have a 3:23:1 or a 3:45:1 diff.

Could ppl please post their rpm @ 100kms, and what diff ratio they are running? ( if known )

Cheers

ToranaGuy

Unless the Final drive ratio's are different on the 6's to the 8's, which i didn't think they were.
With a 3.23 diff, you should be siting on 2,000rpm at 100km/h.
With 3.45's, would be around the 2,100rpm mark at 100km/h.

Here's a calculator that works. Just follow the formula and fill in the blanks with your details.

Brilliant reply guys, thanks heaps. I'lll have to look at my diff to see what ratio it says ( if it has a tag on it ). ATM it looks like i have 3:45 or the tacho is out. ROFL.

Cheers

4th in the auto is 0.68:1.... 4th in 5sp is 1:1 and 5th in 5sp is 0.78 in EA and 0.72 later I6, and 0.73 for the V8.

did you do the changeover or someone else. did you change the speedo drive gear? i'd say the t5 you have is running a black (23 tooth) drive gear and not the light green (i think) one you need. should be able to pull it out of your auto. should've been done when converted but some things get forgotten.

Couple of things I'm assuming:
You've used the same speedo drive gear, and the car runs 15" rims.

I suspect the T5 you've fitted is an EA one (despite you saying it's from an ED).
Have a read of http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38250 and check the g/box for the 'roofing nail'.

My Eb is running 17's, 235/45's. I used the speedo drive gear that was in the T5.

The T5 was from a factory ED 5spd, low kms, even had a relativly new genuine clutch fork & clutch setup. 115k kms on the car. I had a read of the thread you sugested, and went thru some pics of the engine & T5 while i had them outta the car, and i DO HAVE that " roofing nail " near the reverse switch! So it's not an EA box! I was 99% sure it was a ED box, as i 've still got the rest of that damn car in my front yard! I bought a whole ED GLI 5spd from the Auctions ( pickles ) to do the swap.

Pic of engine & T5 in my gallery, http://www.fordmods.com/forums/gallery. ... f=9895&m=0

I did the conversion, all parts from the factory 5spd, OMFG what a pain that was, but i love the EB with a 5spd. I have used the manual ECU & manual gearbox wiring loom. :D No wiring mods there.

I take it the speedo drive for the GLI may not suit my GHIA. I've got my auto in the shed atm, was thinking about fitting it & my other I6 into the ed then selling the car. I'll take a look at it's speedo drive & possibly swap them over.

I just looked @ the time, damn i gotta get to bed, have to be up in about 5hrs. * EEK *

Thanks for the help guys, greatly appreciated.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

your rpm at 100 will be higher with the T5 because of the final gear ratio being shorter then the overdrive in the auto. Look up a few posts one of the guys posted the ratios. Most people think because the manual has an extra gear that they will get better fuel economy but they will actually be better off with the auto because the manual has a higher revving overdrive ratio. I doubt there is anything wrong with what you have done. It is just the way it is.
