Anybody used the ebay Australian shorts shifters?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-XF-XG-X ... dea&_uhb=1
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Falcon- ... 1351862865

I know everyone says get it from the states, but it doesn't actually end up being that much more expensive to buy one of these.

This is the american ones i was thinking of.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-Thunder ... 1242839851
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Racing-Short ... 0743909150

What brand does everyone recommend? Looking to spend between $90-$150 including delivery.
Can anyone confirm that if i buy one of these kits (in the links) that will be all i need? Also, ive read that the thread isn't always the right size? I have a standard au xr II knob (it was optioned with momo but one of the previous owners has taken it off :x )

Cheers
Drew

the Aus ones look similar to what i bought from usa [when A$ was a little ova a $1] but the thread don't fit the standard ford knob [eb & us handle] but i'm currently thinking of making up some for a few differant knobs i have here. plus i paid for cheaper mail [slower] but i think ebay rules re postage may have changed?? [think i paid less than $70 all up back then??? ]

currently procrastinating on this one ... well maybe 2

ok. been doing hours of research....

Now...do i spend over $200 on good well know and probably excellent short shifter from USA - e.g MGWLTD and STEEDA

OR

Do I spent $50 on one from China.

You might say; it comes down to how but you want to pay. but i think its how much their worth.
What differences and how different is a $250 and $50 going to feel in a au xr6. Not a race car; only a daily driver and not looking to see how much money i can throw into it. Have plently of other expensive mods/fixups which im yet to do.

I had the Chinese one but it failed, and needed some massaging of the tunnel opening to fit properly, the stop bolts hit. I can highly recommend the MGW one, it doesn't have the best NVH dampening but is super precise and slick.

From my research (reading comments on mustang forums) the MGW is the better but steeda tri-ax and pro-50 are decent too.
NVH means Noise, Vibration and Harshness. Different brands have different amounts of dampening (rubber) at some point between the gear knob and the selector rod to isolate the NVH.

Also, why did It fail? Did you drive it hard? Race? quarter mile?

Btw, pretty certain all the cheap US ones are just the same as the china one. Some of the descriptions and exactly the same, let alone look exactly the same (same colours too ;D)

^^ now if that is the case...well all these guys that buy the US ones say they are ok??

Also another guy on this forums says he's had that 1 from China for 2 years with no probs.

There's a little pin that goes through the main shaft and works as a rocker on the springs to return the shifter to center, it came loose, seemed to be pressed in. Could probably fix it but it just seemed a little fragile.
They (the cheap ones) are all the same, so if you buy one, just get the cheapest. I'm sure some last ok, I wasn't driving hard, but that's the risk you take with cheap/chinese, quality control isn't their strong point.

Got a Chinese cheap in the XR6 ute at the moment. It's s**t. Putting an MGW Shifter on the TR6060 when the modular goes in.

You won't be disappointed with the MGW, their engineering is top notch. Makes my T5 feel like.......well......not a T5:)
