got a couple of problems with the T5 in my Sprint (245,000km old)

1: 4th and 5th gears whine after 20-30k's at 100km/h, whining doesnt start straight away, but fades in and out untill settling in after the first 20-30km or so, dropping to 80 changes the pitch, and going to 3rd stops the wine at 80, and going up to 4th or 5th after that brings a few moments of peace, but not for long

2: cruising around town (40-60km/h) the box will occasionally slip out of 3rd gear very quietly, and you dont notice anything till you realise you're slowing down, i suspect its worn synchro's, but not 100% sure

3: if i get off the clutch quickly in 1st without holding it in 1st, all i get is a loud thunk and the shifter jumping back to neutral, i suspect this is related to #2

As you know the T5 aint the strongest box around

You could try some Redline oil in ther heard it helps a bit

or if it was me i would source another T5 and get that rebiult super strong if possible and replce with the worn 1 out of your car

so you are saying it's cheaper to put a t56 in there..
a fully built T5 with 18th inch wider gears heavy duty bearing, heavy duty input shaft. rated to 500ft-lb is 2600 pluss shiping from the states.
or you can order just the gear set for $1450 pluss shiping
pyroas t56 conversion cost him over $8000 and is rated to the same torque

yea, ok, i'm interested now, but what ratios/a*** are available?

any idea how different the internals in a ED Sprint gearbox are to a normal one? i remember reading somewhere that not only are the ratios different, but the bearings, etc are larger

if you check out the g-force website, they have a full ratio list for the all the different gear sets, ( straight dog, helical dog, helical syncro)

slipping out of 3rd and 1st could be as simple as bolts need tightening where shifter bolts to box. rubber mounted and bolts can come loose so instead of slotting properly into gear its just flexing on the rubber. probably being a bit hopeful but would pay to check anyway although by the sound of it it needs to come out anyway.

the 2 bolts holding the shifter handle to the box are tight, and the box is positively selecting the gears, just pops out of them for no apparent reason
