Long story short, I went to pull the manual fromt he fairlane today, but I have a problem. I cant get the bloody tailshaft out. The sockets I have wont go onto the bolts due to space, and the ring spanners I have, are the wrong size. Can any one tell me what size ring spanners I need? The diff/tailshaft are from a DA ltd, and it uses four nuts and bolts, not the U bolt type mount (hope that makes sense).

DON'T use a shifter.. Already tried that. I think one of them was an 18.

btw mark the uni joint with 2 stipes of liquid paper abotu 5 cms apart so u can put it back the smae way

I think the bolt was a 15mm and the nut was 18mm. But I didn't have an 18mm spanner so I used a big shifter

Thanks for that, ill go and try to get some ring spanners today, and hopefully I can get the bloody thing out. Also have to get a breaker bar, to get the gear box bolts undone:(

Go and get yourself a rattle gun and an air compressor, supercheap have the compressors for about $90 at the moment, and the rattle guns for $45 .. Trust me, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it! |

If he can't get in with a socket then I doubt he will get a rattle gun in there.
I agree though, the most valuable tools in my garage is my compressor & my air tools

Yeah, a rattle gun and comp is on my list of purchases comming up, cause ive told the mrs ill re-spray her car for her. As for the gearbox, I got it out fairly easily (apart from the bloody thing droping on my finger, which I now think could be broken). Hardest part was undoing the clutch and flywheel bolts. Motor kept wanting to turn real easily (prob due to no head), but a bloody bit screwdriver fixed that.
Dont think ill attempt fitting the manual to the el myself, so ill have to find someone to do it. Shouldnt cost too much, all they have to do is pull out the auto, bolt the manual in, plug in the ecu and connect the clutch cable.

If you plan on spraying a car don't get a $90 compressor from supercheap, it'll never keep up. You need at least 12cfm to keep up with a quality high pressure gun

as they said 15 and 18mm, they will be hard to crack as there is locktite on the bolts.

forgot to mention that the shaft may have a yellow dot on either end. mark on the diff flange and the trannie output shaft the same as the dots on the drive shaft. will keep its system balance when put back in.
