hi under hard acceleration my tailshaft comes into contact with the floor, i know this as there are marks on the under side of the floor and a indent. my mate also has a el xr6 and has the same problem. both cars have been lowered, but that wouldnt really do it would it? i have also thought it may be flogged out bushes? any suggestions would be great thanks!!!

it might be the gearbox mount or the lower control arms or it just might be too loww

Replace control arm bushes.
And Check bump stops on shockers. If rooted, Replace. Sounds like your driveline angles may be a bit messed up...

I had that problem after I fitted superlows and an alloy tailshaft (bigger diameter) to my ef. It was hitting just behind the gearbox. I did a temporary fix by putting a shim between the crossmember and underbody to lower the gearbox. After measuring I found that whatever the crossmember I was using came from was holding the gearbox a few mm higher than normal. I modified an auto rear crossmember, bolted it up, havent had a problem since.

yep, been there done that too.
Mine was rubbin at the rear (just at the flared section b4 the diff) I changed the uppers and all fixed. Still get a big bang when I snatch it (greens nice....) Bushes and a hammer.. Fixed.

Hmm very interesting.. I was gonna get Kings LOWS, but my tyre shop dude said he had an EB and suggested go SUPER LOWS and "she'll be right" ...
are the dents at the diff end of the taily? how does replacing the arms fix this? purely due to the new bushes? |

ahh, mines a different story, I changed geometry, EL std uppers instead of XR ones. (they're shorter)
My prop shaft was touching about 6 inches from the yoke at the diff end.

I have a lowered EL Fairmont Ghia. I replaced the upper and lower control arms a while ago but about 2 months ago i fitted the XR type upper control arm (350mm with kink at the rear) straight after these arms were fitted the drive shaft hit the floor under hard acceleration. I put the standard EL control arms back on (320mm) and no more problems, I just now have to make another driveshaft as the current one now vibrates due to damage hitting the floor.
What happens with the XR type arms is that they are mounted further to the rear on the diff and at a certain lowered height the front of the diff pulls up and even more so under hard acceleration and therefore hitting the floor. The standard EL arms fit further forward on the diff stopping the diff from pulling up when under acceleration and the rear lowered. On a standard XR the car isnt low enough to do this. |

i had the exact same problem with my EB with superlows.....the control arm bushes were f**k which caused the diff to twist up on hard acceleration....put in new bushes and it was all sweet....
