hey guys, Ive got a EL XR6 and it has a steel tailshaft in it. i got new uni's put in it awhile back now and well it sort of fix abit of the virbrating i had through the car but its still there at 100k's and anything faster than that. so im just wondering should i just go to wreackers and get a alloy tailshaft from there and save my time on getting the steal one rebalance?

I think the only alloy tail shaft you will get is from a wagon or fairlane/ltd. So it wont fit in you EL.

Alloy tailshafts are available for sedans, good luck in picking up one though, they get snapped up pretty quick.

Used on XRs and others, quite a few around, Benj had one which is now with Greenmachine and originaly was Troymans I think. Factory item. All police spec HP cars used alloyshafts as no speed limiter. Think the XR's were std as well but that would need to be confirmed by some people that have XR's or used to.

XR's usually have alloy tailshafts

When you say "weights" would you mean the steel disc component on the slip yoke? If so its there to reduce the torque lock up boom. Just take a measurement from your original driveshaft from the diff flange to the point there the extension casing seal has been workingon the slip yoke. With the replacment driveshaft use that measurement but allow between 10-20 mm from the "weight" (actual name is SYD) to ensure enough travel in the suspension, Also make sure the slip yoke working suface is about the same length as the original. One more thing to add the vibration that you have ove 100km/h could also be a worn extension housing bush in the transmission (check for play at the slip yoke. Another cause could be is incorrect pinion angle if the car has been lowered.

okay ive replace the bush in the rear of the gearbox, the uni's were done by joolz thanks for that. my mate has got the same setup as mine but his doesn't do it but mine does. so it narrows it down to the steel tailshaft.
