Hey all,
I'm in the process of working on my 2004 XR8. It's off the road and I now have a daily driver so I'm ready to get stuck into it. The first problem I have is that the tailshaft loop is stuffed. The second problem is that the section where it joins to the gearbox has a crack in it. I'm told I need a whole new tailshaft as removing the current one means having to destroy the uni joint (or something along those lines). Can anyone tell me if this is correct - will I need a whole new tailshaft even though the tailshaft isn't really the main problem? If so, does anyone know what sort of cost I'm looking at and the best place to get one on the Gold Coast? Thanks. Paul. |

Can't understand why you would need to destroy the Uni Joint to remove the Tailshaft. Just unbolt at the diff. drop the centre mount and pull her out.
I take from what you have said about the crack, the extension housing on the gearbox is the part you are talking about. If this is cracked, then the question would be, Why? |

They have a rubber coupling....and yes, they don't come apart....so I found out from a 2003 BA XR8 260 BOSS....manual.

Thanks for those replies.
So, is it a case that all I need is a new tailshaft loop and can keep using the actual tailshaft? |
