The joys of a big heavy AWD car.
Coopers are overpriced in my opinion for what they are. I dunno about their more road orientated patterns but I know their muddies are crap. They rip apart at the lugs and scuff up real easily. WOuld you say the tyres you are buying have about 50% of tread remaining? Reason I ask is that tyres generally wear quicker in the bottom 50% of the scale then the top 50%. Instead of the tyre only being good for 30000kms in actual fact it might be good for 50000. Sometimes if you shop around and take fitting and balancing into account second hands tyres are not the good deal they first appear to be.

I have Bridgestone Dueller H/T's on the Triton and I have just clocked up 40,000k's and I reckon I'll easily get another 10,000 if not more! Always run bridgestones on the work trucks and never had a problem. The A/T's wear quicker, but that's to be expected when the car does mostly highway running.
I have a mate who had coopers on his troopie! He hated the things with a passion. Very slippery in the wet, he said it was like diving on ice  Probably due to the harder compound on the longer wearing tyres???

are they wearing out unevenly? its possible you have a wheel alignment issue which is causing it.
The rear alignment is adjustable on these and ba/bf/fgs too btw |

thats really unusual on territorys. Try and pick up a set of the integritys which were OEM fitment on RWDs and factory option on AWDs. Most people seem to do 30-40kays out of them

Most people report really good kms from the Goodyear Fortera AWD tyres, more so than the RWD Good year Integrity I've been through 2 sets of the Forteras in the 17" size and both got around 50k+ I'm now on my second set of 18" and these are still getting 35-45k (a bit of a dissapointment after the 17's). Inflation pressure is critical - try around 36psi for the best balance of ride and wear. A guy at work goes through his tyres quick but on the rare occasion he checks the pressure (when I ask him what it is) he usually reports back something in the 20's (idiot) |

There's nothing wrong with the coopers. it all comes down to what you're after. when you shop for them, you tell the guys exactly what you want the tyre to do. wet, dry, snow, road, rural, wear, off-road and noise. they'll use their comparison matrix for the right choice from your preference!
you don't go there rushing in wanting muddies and expecting it to handle like a charm in wet bitumen. that is just a stupid!... usually the case when one knob finds out it handles like s**t on the road then complains to his mates not to get it!!! A good set of al rounder coopers are the CS4 and ATR. I was reading the paper a month ago and there were two set of classes they won overall. can't recall which type. I also reckon you'll need to get a four wheel alignment on every oil change as expression already said.

No worries, they guaranty them to last up to 90,000kms providing you keep records of alignment services. at the end, they'll pay themselves off twice over.

Another thing to check with the new tyres Ash is if your local tyre dealer has nitrogen filling available.
The tyres do run cooler , pressure is more stable , ride is much smoother and tyres do last longer. I have had it before in a road car and I found it worththe $25 or so they charge to do it. I dont worry with the Mav as I am meant to be airing down tyres and pumping them back up when playing off road when I do get out nowdays. Maybe the rough rural roads out your way and extra tyre heat from the weight and constant speed with open road driving isnt helping. I have read somewhere that your tyres do actually wear out twice as quick at 100km/h then they do at 90km/h due to the extra drag etc.

Bummer, so long as you can get more then 50k out of it and take out a road puncture warranty, you're covered.

Our work Tezza has just topped 13000 on the original GoodYear Integrity tyres and other than feathering on the outside edge of the front they appear to have about 70% tread left. This is all city driving and the vehicle is not driven in a pedestrian manner. Our Tezza is a 6 speed auto 4l and failry consumes the juice. 22l/100 gives you an idea of how it is driven. It also has a large amount of extra equipment on borad and is probably 300kg heavier than a stock TS. The tyre wear seems to be inline or better than that of our sedans. Maybe the factory fitted tyres are worth it depending on the price. Food for thought. Brett

Maybe they don't last as long now they're 'made in China'
 The ones that I have used were the original 'made in Australia' versions  Unfortunately tyre manufacturing has now all gone offshore

Im just about to change the Original integritys on my 2wd ghia after 3 years and 70000 km, not bad! And I need new rears on my turbo after 10,000 on them
