just did manual conversion on the shed floor and i think the throw out bearing (not sure if called that) the thing that sits on the clutch fork and engages the clutch and spins sounds crunchy when i hold the clutch in, was wondering if this can be removed without taking the box out and also if i could maybe just remobe the bottom dust cover off the bell housing and soak it with wd 40 or metho or somthing an then just grease up the bearings in it?

nup!
You have to remove the box, pretty simple really, tailshaft, few bolts and pop it out, with a bit of luck you wont need to remove the bell housing. New ones are about $25 I hope you used a New spigot bearing to.
