Spools dont kill people, people kill people. And young blokes in cars with spools are more likely to get into trouble than a young bloke who doesnt. You are not listening to what naughtyfalcon has to say, and forgetting that older guys, like he and I have been exactly where you are, and done this kind of silly stuff. And quite lucky to tell the tale too. Have you ever thought of a falcon axle, and its 1 1/8 axle flange diameter? Get an old axle, and cut through it with a hacksaw.......its like cheese. Very easy. Now picture that same axle locked, and skipping on every corner..... If a wheel comes off, which it very likely can, try driving a 3 wheeled falcon away from that tree up ahead..... Now poor old naughtyfalcon has to cut another poor guy out of a wrecked car.....This is what he is trying to say. Life is alot more enjoyable, and sustainable should you remove serious risks. |

I understand they are not the best option for a street car but saying death is inevitable if you use one is a bit rich.
Have you guys ever broken a 28 spline axle with a spool? |

Have you guys ever broken a 28 spline axle with a spool? YES! I have a 12 sec full street trim falcon here, that would run even quicker on slicks, with decent gears in the rear, that will line lock up into top gear withinn 5 seconds of starting the burnout, that really needs a spool. I kill limos regularly, but will NEVER fit a spool, because I drive it on the street. If you want the out of control on power action, get a detroit locker. Legal, and the proper bit of gear. There are a few types of them, but spools have one place. On the race track. I have a few spools here, but would never use one on the street. |

I dont disagree with you, but just thought I might add, when the wheel ripped out of my falcon with the axle still attached I had to cut it (too bent to re-fit) and it was the hardest thing !! took 2 9" cutting disks to get through it... They are a might bit stronger then you give them credit for |

I may be new to the forums and correct me if im out of line but here you are crucifying a guy about a question of installing a mini spool into his car, saying that they are illegal and kill people. well what about the cars that get the oversized tyres or the huge blowers through the bonnet obstructing there views of pedestrians, Or the owners saying they have nitrous hooked up in there cars on the street. Give the guy credit for asking the question which is what the forum was designed for . Dont crucify him for asking it. better to be informed before installing the minispool. We all modify our cars and are we all certified welders, mechanics, electricians and engineers.. I think not
Sorry forum moderator if this upsets you.

grow the f**k up mini spools are for track racing why in f**k name would you want to run a road car on a spool ???? chews tyres, f**k bushes ect and what the f**k for so you can leave two piss weak skids instead of one ??? you have been informed of how thay work and what thay where made for RACING so get the f**k over it and get a LSD/detrot locker and go f**k your self . and fordcoupe i see you are new, welcome to the site, but logic is logic why run a spool in a everyday car ???

I think that the point has been missed leave the statistics up to the pollies. the fact that yes spools are not designed for street applications as everyone has pointed out. But to jump in with remarks of killing people in crashes we get enough of that from all the TV stations and news papers .
Bottom line dont go the way of a spool as they are very twitchy on the road and do place alot of stresses on your driveline and chasis( i thought this was the kind of opinion that the user wanted to hear)

why would you run a spool in a street car fordcoupe? i think it has to do with common sence rather than what some stupid f**k pollie has to say, i race with spools no big deal all theses wanks are making it sound like your adding a blown 460, dont use a spool for the simple fact it will f**k you car.

(yeah)Thats exactly my point the guy was basicall asking for technical feedback on the pro,s n cons of spools. Me personally wouldnt touch a mini/ full spool with a ten foot pike pole for street use and im very apprehensive about swapping one into the diff over a good solid built LSD. For the limited time that i,ll be racing the car its not justified in the wear and tear on the car let alone trying to drive 275 tyres around in the wet. I suppose i was trying to keep in line with what i thought the forum was for, technical feedback not a war of words as some of the other feedback degraded to.( back in me box)

hey i am not out to flame but this is a 2 page post on why not to run a spool, common sence say why. i dont see a spool killing ppl, its really a joke saying a 4.0l falcon will turn into a death machine cos of a lock diff, if anythink it will be a tyre dragging slug.

I do respect everyones opinions and yes these are the types of responses I was looking for. There are a lot of different variables to think about and a lot of them have been made.
Thanks guys!
