What kind of tools do you need to change an AU's Transmission fluid?

if its the same as a manual gearbox, then youll need a 3/8'' Allan Key/Hex bit, for the drain plug and filler plug. and one of them bottles with a hand pump, and a decent length of hose to go into the trans.

It's a 16mm bolt for the fill plug on a BTR.

Haha theres no drain plug on an auto, honestly if you dont know that youd be better to pay someone or it will bite you hard.

There is a specific way to service an auto tranny in an EFII to BA ( 4sp auto ).
If not followed, there will be too little oil in the tranny, and you'll stuff it.

Max Ellery's manual seems quite straight forward. It looks like you just have to remove the oil pan retaining bolts then tap the pan at one corner to break it loose, which then allows the fluid to drain. Am I missing something here? cheers

Here's a basic run down, what I do is jack the car up securely and place it on stands, place a suitable drain pan underneath. and undo all but the front 3 of the pan bolts, let the oil drain out, then remove all of the pan bolts and remove the pan. Clean the gasket surfaces on both the Pan and the transmission itself until they are nothing short of SPOTLESS, then install a new Gasket and fit it all back up, then I check the trans fluid level with the car running in park, and then top it up as appropriate (Make sure you use the correct 95LE fluid, and not Dexron III) Also, whilst the pan is off, I always install a New filter, wich is held on by one spring clip, you just need a flathead screwdriver to get it off, but this step is entirely up to you.

Yeah mate, same stuff, as long as it's reccomended for use in the Ford 4 speed auto series of Transmissions, you'll be apples.

I just tried to undo the filler plug nut .... it's too f**k tight. I'll need another way to drain the auto trans fluid.
Question: If you undo the bolts for the pan ONLY.. and let the fluid flow out, will that completely drain the auto trans system of the existing fluid? Also, how do you put the new fluid in? My car is an inline 6 cylinder, so it doesn't have the dipstick. I assume you need a filler pump? any help is great cheers.

You can't drain it from the filler plug, well, not without a pump or something weird. You drain it by lowering the pan. You put new fluid in from the filler plug that you're having trouble undoing. You've got to get it done, use a single hex impact socket and a breaker bar. Lack of the dipstick happened EF Series II I believe. JT |

JT a quick question here, sorry for asking in someone else's thread,I got 1995 EF Falcon futura and i do have a auto box with dip stick, If i drain the oil by lowering the pan, Can i refil the new oil using a funnel through dip stick neck ?.thanx in advance.
