I am trying to put an EL gearbox (4 speed auto/6 cylinder) into an AU2. Both motor and gearbox are out of the car atm. I have changed the bellhousing from AU box to EL.

Problem is when I tighten the gearbox to the block the bolts on the torque converter hit the plate between the block and bellhousing. If I loosen the gear box bolts the engine turns freely. Tighten them and the motor tightens and won't turn properly. What am I doing wrong????

Thanks
Blake.

Make sure the convertor is fully engaged into the pump.

Was the au engine a manual?-if so you need to remove spigot bearing.
