Is it worth fitting a trans cooler to my EL 5ltr, if it will be pushing 180rwkw? getting the auto completely flushed out aswell and it has a shift kit.

A trans cooler is always worth it.

i thought the v8's had them as standard. or is that with just the xr8's.
there is a reason ford put it on with towpack and taxi's.
so get it if your putting power through it.

yeh it should already have one should be on the drivers side far front of the car.....unles they were only fitted when a tow pack was ??? but u should have one....Id never say no to a transcooler upgrade talk to JMM (jim mock motorsport) since there near u and price up a stall convertor upgarde for the auto with that extra power.....think there normally round $650 supplied $1000 fitted...the kit includes a larger transcooler and all the other bits you'll need...the stalli itself can be either 2500 or 3000rpm versions.

I'm pretty sure all 8's got 'em but they are pissy little things that are hardly worth it.
It does make it fairly easy to pop a nice big aftermarket one on tho..

I fitted one about a year ago cause at every trans service the fluid would be burned, since then the fluid stays a nice red between changes. :D

I have no idea if it is counted, but my transmission fluid has a pipe that goes into the top of the radiator. So i assume its getting cooled. Car came with standard towpack. ED GLI if that helps, will take a photo if you dont understand.

you can upgrade to a larger one, kits cost around $150, they come with every thing required. just find out how much clearance the xr bumpers have, as fairmont ones only have enough for the stock cooler.

twin turbo that is the standard trans cooler that is built into the radiator, every 4spd auto falcon has it.

HI
all auto boxs have a cooler inside the radiator but if you have a heavy duty tow pack or ex cop car ,taxi ect.. there will be another cooler infront of your radiator.
so the hose will run into the top of your radiator out the bottom and the hose should run into a small cooler at the front of your radiator then a hose will return to your gear box.

i hope that makes sense...

On my EL XR6 there is a cooler on the driver side in front of the radiator, that would be the extra trans cooler :)

My ef xr8 had a davies craig cooler in it & I added another one to it using two tee pieces.Checked it with a digital temp gauge & they are both running at 60 degrees.

as for jim mocks stally im led to beleive it flashes up to any speed from 2500rpm to above 3000rpm, depending on your power output. His site says that a stock motor will happily stall to 2500rpm, where as a worked motor such as a DEV5a or something similar, the converter will flash up over 3000rpm.

Dont bother with the piddly little ford oil coolers, get a decent sized aftermarket cooler.
My auto lasted about 4 months with 200wkws then started slip big time on the dyno when we tuned it... it was getting just under 200kws at 3500rpm and thats where the auto gave up and just slipped into N

Give it a service and put a big cooler on... BTMs are not really a high performance transmission unfortunately
