Adrian, is this a small radiator-like object (maybe 150mm x 100mm x 30mm) if front of the radiator, driver's side?

Had my front bar off the other day and noticed such and object. Maybe common on V8s?

Yep Martin, thats the one. Although I think mine is a bit bigger than that. I'll have a look after work.

you can get them from FORD as part of a heavy duty tow pack, 2300kg.

Funny, I asked Gregory's a few months ago and they said they don't do that.

I think 1600kg packs were the "tongue" and the 2300kg packs were the "box" fitted by Ford. I think ( Option 42 ? ) was a factory fitted oil cooler. Can someone confirm that?

I think the specialist knows exactly what hes talking about. Dont fit one, it gets hot, you cook it, he rebuilds it, you pay him. Simple.

I was quoted $400 fitted for a new taxi spec cooler. It's about as big as the radator, obviosuly desgined for all day every day usage.

You've got aa point there, maybe I should have said "you need to find a honest transmission specialist" surprisingly they are out there.

That would be overkill for the average driver, I bought a standard one from Bursons some years back IIRC price was around $150 for kit, self installed very easy. Standard one is about the size of the air filter.

your tranny guy is not very smart.

this how you tranny works a pump picks up from the pan and then splits the fluid flow into two one flow goes through the workings of your auto for lube and clutch/band operation. the other goes into your converter (most of the heat is created in the converter)
then moves to your cooler and then back to your pan.

so i can't see what flow he is worried about.

Anyone got a pic of where a factory fitted one might be?
I got a 5.0L with heavy tow kit so I might have one. I want to know where it is.
