Hi
Any chance a 6 cylinder tranny controller will operate a V8 transmission. At least to see if it will get out of limp home mode. ? cheers |

Hello,
As I understand it, the T bar puts it in drive, and without the ECU it will default to 3rd. There are 2 solenoids that work to select the other 3 gears. Both for 1 gear, and each on its own for the other 2. The was a good thread here a while ago about this.

I thought the early V8's had a seperate tranny controller too......??????

All V8 4 speed BTR's till AU have a separate TCM Not 100% sure about the sixes. def ED on have TCM with the PCM

The V8 TCM uses 12v, where the i6 one uses 5v at a few of the pins. Or the other way around.
I think those pins are the PWR Switch and one other line but cant remember. The Schematics for EB-ED show that different Pins are used where the signal is different - so there is a half chance that they work fine in either car. But at your risk, not mine! Also - the EF/EL TCM is different than the EB-ED one. |

ended up opening controller and found some components blown to bits, replaced them and that sorted the limp home mode, slight rev when changing from 2nd to third. Found another TCM and fitted that which fixed the 2/3 flare but cant manually hold gears. Select 1,2 or 3 manually and it still changes gears like its in drive. I'm thinking thats a problem in the box.

Ive read (very recently) that you should absolutely look at earthing the gearbox directly to the chassis.
It appears that when the engine earth goes bad, the engine and transmission will earth through the TCM, and blow it to bits. Also means you should probably look at the engine earth as well. Theyre problematic in falcons Nigel |

I'm thinking thats a problem in the box. it could also be the inhibitor switch

Sorry yes - I concur. The inhibitor switch is likely. But the damaged TCM - indicates Earth trouble
