I'm thinking about buying a factory Ford transmission oil cooler for my ED because I plan on doing quite a bit of towing. I've never fitted one before so if someone could run me through the fitting procedure then that would be great. I will be getting it from the local wreckers yard....It's complete and out of a 4.0 EB sedan.
Cheers

Trickiest bit is figuring out how to mount it usually but if its factory it should be easy.. gives you a good excuse to get your transmission serviced too.

To fit a tranny cooler to an ED, you don't need to remove the front bumper.

what do i use to flange the pipes so that the rubber hoses don't come off?
what did u cut the lines with?? also on the true blue fords site on the ef/el trans cooler install they cut down along the bottom od the lines is this better worse or just owner preference? thanx in advance |

You then have two ends, and hook the two ends on the cooler to these. If you get 10mm trans oil hose it will fit straight over the cut pipe, use two hose clamps, but the hose will be a loose fit on an OE cooler. I just used two hose clamps again and kept tightening, and there's no leak so far, it looks fine.

I left the bumper on mine, but regret it. It would have been faster and easier and better for me to have flicked the bumper off. Different types of coolers might be easier than my std EA/EB cooler, but i would still be inclined to whip it off.
