iv'e noticed lately that the tranny in my el has started to whine, i can hear it over the exhaust which must mean its fairly loud! it gets louder as the revs go up then goes away as it changes gears.

could it just be in need of a service? would low oil cause this noise?

thanx

My car has the same whine - apparently its bits of brass from the radiator coil or something that flows through the system and gets trapped in the back a*** of the transmission, causing the whine. The only way to get rid of it is to pull the transmission down and put in a new gear set which pretty much isn't worth it, might aswell get a secondhand or a reco'd box. I haven't bothered doing anything with mine but it did get a tranmission service and it didn't do anything.
Instead of getting mine fixed, i'm just waiting for a V8 T5 to come along so I can do the conversion.

Probably wont get the brass out that is already in there though I wouldn't imagine. Be good to hear another opinion, as the guy I spoke to about it was probably biased on me getting a new tranny so he will repe the benefits
