I have been pondering about a manual conversion for a while now, and I was at first just going to go and throw a T5 into my ghia in the future, but now plans have changed and I'll be garaging it for a while.. and I'd rather put all my eggs in one basket.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremec_TR- ... ansmission

I was reading about putting a T56 into it, but then I stumbled across the TR-6060 box, which is apparently a revised T56 which is/was fitted in FG Falcons.

Now my question is, is it theoretically possible for one of these boxes to fit into an E series? I know people have put T56's into them already.. Only negatives I can see is they are probably less available and more expensive (more fussing about over just better/smoother shifting).

Thankyou in advance.

Few issues there. The TR6060 shifter is too far back for EF/L and there is no speedo provision. Either a T56 Magnum or VZ 6L (TUET6000 part number) T56.

Just a re-ask if anyone has fitted a TR6060 to either E-series or X-series and whats involved with the transmission mount etc...

Cheers Johnny.

I have a T56 (bolts up the same as a TR-6060) in my AU, needed a modified gearbox mount from Mal Wood, which still needed work. Also need to run the under dash hydraulics. Also need a new tailshaft. im running a BF ABS unit that i get a speed signal from. You can get the box modified for a speedo sensor.

the shifter in mine sits back approx 1-2 inch and i cut the floor to suit, but its worse in a e series. May be able to use a commodore box where the shifter is in a different spot

Thanks for your response mate,Do you know if the flywheels are the same between the T56 and TR6060-also is the ABS unit required to get the speed pulse from the ABS sensors or can the sensors be used directly some how?
I still cannot believe how much the TR6060 weights reminds me of the old top loaders.
Cheers Johnny.

the flywheels are different, but thats only because of the way the starter bolts up. depends what bell housing you use, FG is different to BA/BF. You may be able to use a JAy car speedo corrector to sue a ABS signal to get a speedo signal.

and yes they are a heavy box....

Hi mate -thanks again, the box I have is FG & so is the bell but I only have a T56 flywheel-so does this mean I need to get the TR flywheel-is there any problems with using the FG bell with a BF engine,am just trying to get my ducks in a row so I don't order something I can't use (clutch etc..)
Cheers Johnny.

You can use the FG bellhousing as long as you use the FG starter motor. It all bolts up the same

Thanks again, I promise not to ask any more stupid questions but am still unclear about which flywheel and therfore clutch to use-can I use the T56 flywheel or do I need to get the TR6060 flywheel .
Cheers Johnny.

if you have a FG bellhousing must use a TR6060 flywheel. its wider than the T56 so the starter wont engage

Thanks again mate, that makes sense-one step closer-bloody hard sorting everything out with minimal $$$-which makes info like this highly valued.
Cheers Johnny.
