Isnt LR68 and LR69 the part number of the 4wd systems lokka centres?
Im interested to know which one of the powertrax items fit. The 4wd systems ones dont get the best rap. From reading that 4wd systems site the inside wheel shouldnt be ratcheting. Maybe its not fitted right? |

ah is what LR69 and LR68 are? That would make sense then...
Yeah because your coasting and inertia of the car is pushing on the motor (when you coast into a corner) the opposite wheel is allowed to ratchet (or so it sounds) and then you go to accelerate the inner wheel drives and the ratchet tone changes slightly so this is how I'm guessing its swapping the ratcheting wheel... It definitely works right... Stick one set of wheels in the dirt and stand on it... You can't spin the wheel with the least traction... I just can't get it smooth... These would be great for a track car... But for around town 90 degree cornering... I'm not so sure... Only way I can get it smooth is to clutch the car before I want to accelerate and then let it out slowly with a bit of gas as if your taking off from standstill... This allows all the backlash and changing to be absorbed by the clutch and not the car... But thats a pain in the a**... Can't work this device out yet... I don't think its best for a daily anyway... Just put a TrueTrac in my GT-P after smashing the centre of the stock (clutch type) M86 LSD - the lsd carrier ended up on the road.
Only had it a week and a bit now, loving it. Tad expensive, as I smashed everything in the old diff, nothing was reusable.

whats the principal datamine?
Same as Lokka? Deliver power to the wheel with the least traction or just lock the wheels together under acceleration? I'm guessing yours must have set you back around the 1500 to 2000 buck mark too? Seem expensive... But seem to be the best out there... I'm guessing perfectly quiet too? Cheers, Tim

Cheers, Tim Nah, it works like an open diff until there's slip, then it ensures no wheel goes slower than the crown wheel, one can go faster however (so can do corners without scrubbing). It's quiet in normal operation, but makes some noise when dealing with slip, but that's not for long as it gets things back in shape quickly. It's interesting the drive with, can't say I've gotten used to it yet, but I'm liking it so far. Will know more in about a month when I hit up Wakefield again.

how did you drop the carrier on the road? Bad design? Under rated? Or accident? Must have been an interesting series of thuds and bangs?

Cheers, Tim It didn't drop, it shot out the back. It had 100,000 hard k's on it. Numerous track days, drag passes (+ burnouts) on slicks, and the GT-P is putting out significantly more power/torque than factory, I guess it just had enough. Note the LSD carrier, which should be firmly attached to the crown wheel is missing. It (well part of it) was found on the road. It exited via the diff hat (note the large hole). Then the rest of the diff proceeded to eat itself on the LSD parts suddenly found floating around inside. It was a complete write off. It also on it's way out, damaged the IRS cradle where the diff hat mounts to the rear bush/cradle. So I needed a new one of those too, and new bushes. I had a spare diff housing, and 2.72 ratio a*** (my factory diff), got it rebuilt with a new 3.46 a*** (same as in the diff that died), TrueTrac centre, new bearings, etc. new hat.

Yeah looks like a messy experience...
I have been reading about those true traks... It appears that they don't "lock up" at all... Unlike the lock right equivalents... The true traks are just a clutchless LSD and will always allow wheel slippage and requires x amount of slip before the faster axle breaks... Cheers, Tim

But it locks the slowest axle to the crown wheel, so you always have drive. At least that's how I understand it. There's the possibility if one wheel has zero traction (up in the air for example), it won't allow the other axle to lock and will free spin the zero traction wheel leaving you with no drive. Build the centre with some pre-load, or slightly apply the brakes will allow the lock up to occur and away you go. Generally only a problem for 4x4ers.

yeah...
one website made it sound that as the speed differential grew it got to a point where the quicker spinning axles wound the 3 helical gears it sits in back into the carrier (or whatever you wanna call it) into their own hardened cup each and once they bottomed out they brake (friction of bottoming out against the small gear) and this slowed the quicker axle... Not directly driving the slower one but braking the faster one... If that makes sense... Not sure how it would behave with one wheel off the ground... Although like you said, not a likely problem for the GT-P Cheers, Tim

The diff that fell apart was also the M86 diff i think are they supposed to be 4 pinion centre?
