Hi guys,
This topic seems to be looked at and not completely answered before it goes off topic very quickly. I have just bought an XR6 N/A with 17" rims which I will be discarding for the FPV GT Black rims very shortly... However I have 235/50/R17's on it from the dealer which the outside edge of the tyres are almost shredded and looking quite dangerous. Can anyone tell me which of these two options are going to be better for the stock rims. Price and make are not a factor here just size. I have the brand and tyre type already chosen just need help on the size. 235/50/R17 245/45/R17 or another size??? |

I thought stock tyres for those rims were 235/45/17.

Doesn't you car have a tyre placard saying what size is standard?
I don't think you will notice much difference - probably harsher ride with the 45 series tyres and your car will sit slightly lower to the ground. I doubt you will notice many of the benefits of smaller side wall with an otherwise stock set up.
