I have Rotalla branded tyres in 235/45/17 and picked them up for under $100 each fitted and balanced.

Good for a daily driver, but are the weak point of my handling.

Cheers

Haha. I got those from Tyres For Less (Fairfield) $62.50 a pop!

Not bad.... In the dry

235/35/r18's on the fairmont and slippery buggers when the road is wet and greasy, 37,XXX on my rear tyres.

never been rotated and only replaced the fronts cause of an alignment issue.

Yeah they aren't any good in the wet... at all!
Under normal circumstances its fine, as long as you know the limits of your cars handling with any given tyre. It is when unexpected sh*t happens, thats when they show thier faults.
I had a scary moment recently where I needed to brake quickly, and it was like being on ice. It honestly felt like the car would never pull up.

dont know if you guys have something similar over east, but i know of a guy in perth that buys excess rims and tyres from wrecking yards in bulk for cheap prices. smashed rims are sold for scrap metal, 15 and 16 inch pursuit rims with second hand tyres get sold to a local trailer fabrication place, other good spare tyres are sold as cheap second hands. good to get you out of a jam but wouldn't make their stuff a regular choice, although i have seen a few taxis there when i have picked up the odd cheap tyre or two......
