Falken tyres. The only choice.

depends on your budget like anything, however,
the falcons run a 7½rim, you can get up to 225/50/15 on them but a tyre in that size for decent rubber, say a bridgestone Giii your looking at $185 with NRMA/RACV membership, bridgestone tyres give a 5% discount with memberships, then you have the 225/60/15 better priced and a better range you can still get the bridgestones, but a perhaps a better option is the Yokohama tyres either the A539, or the new C.Drive, all 3 retail for $155 a corner. Pirellis I have found to be ok but a little soft wearing, personally value for money on a pretty good perfomance tyre at the moment would be either the yokies or the bridgestone.

Personally I have to recommend Hankook Ventus Sport K104's, as I use them on my car. I've had the set on since I bought the car, cost me about $210 ea for 235/45 R17's and I've done about 23,000kms on them and the three I haven't replaced still have a good 8-10mm tread on them.
The one I had to replace wasn't from problems with the tyre...was from myself and a little to much (and to often) overzealous steering causing one to wear unevenly with understeer They're very good in the dry, and I've never had a problem with it feeling uneasy in the wet....unless of course I've made it so

yeah the hankooks are a damn good tyre but they don't make em in a suitable 15 size thay only have 205/50/15. thats a pretty small wall to put on a 15 inch rim, would look very out of place, you don't want to go below a 60 profile unless you are changing the wall proifle for a specific purpose. I do track work in mine and find a 60 series tyre is quite suitable, I run 50 profile tyres on a dedicated track car, I'll take some pick and show you the difference between the 2 profiles if you like.

Brigestone G-Grids are great for 15's. they come in 215 and 225's. Good wear, smoke well, and they grip good in all conditions, plus they look phat on 15's.

i did read in WHEELS( am i allowed to mention magazine names???) a interesting tyre review for the 205/65r15 and there result was "..if my falcon needed new rubber, I'd be ticking the box marked 'yokohama A539', and no discussion with the tyre retailer would be entered into."

ive had yoki's on mine for near 50,000kms and they still have ~2-3mm before the indicators and evenly worn. i quite highly reccomend them and will definatley get them again next time.

I am currently running 215/60/15 Bridgestone G'Grid 2 's on the fronts and have found them to be very Grippy and good in the wet. I am running same size G'grid 1's at the back and found them to be excellent for powerslides, hookturns, drifting and just good old fashion Burnouts And Helios

ok, got my set of yokohama c.drives fitted on friday, they are 225/60/15 today I was at eatern creek and did 6 supersprint runs on em, these things are sticky, they came up to temperature quick, in about 6 hard pulls they were coming on fast, I've had bridgestone potenza gIII's and yokohama A539's on the car previously, and neither compare, but the good thing is they compare damn well on price, I paid $153 a corner, the XR is still very stock apart from a heavy duty clutch a tremec short throw shifter, braided brake lines good brake fluid and EBC greens, cause of the brake upgrade I was a bit concerned they may not handle the heavy braking well, but, these blew me away, I was lapping consistantly in 2.07 and 2.08 in most of my runs except when I got a little adventurous, I was topping out at 215km/h on the straight and was pulling turn one at 185km/h, alot of the track is second and third and the tyres handled the punch out of the corner well, I could still get em to brake traction if enough aggression was used but your gonna get that with any tyre. I have done about 100kay of street and highway on em already as well, they are a very quiet tyre, more so than the A539's, which are currently being superceeded by the c.drives anyway. and the bridgestones go off too quick by comparison. if you have a 7½ inch rim these will go straight on with no issues.
for my money the c.drives are an awesome allround performance tyre that are more than capable of stepping up to the occasional squirt. by comparrison the c.drives we about 1-2 seconds a lap quicker then the A539's and possibly even 4 seconds a lap quicker then the GIII's. I'll take some happy snaps of the tyres after being punnished and you can see how well they stood up.
