i had slightly warped front rotors and replaced them with cross drilled and slotted rotors, with bendix advance pads.
WOW..... made a hell of a difference.
that might be due to the old disc/pad combination being past it's use-by-date.
I picked the 2 rotors up for $112 (coventry stuff up).

just thought of something thats going around in my head and cant find a justifiable meaning to.
these dba rotors are the same size as stock, but they have these grooves and holes in them,so logic would have it that if i installed them i would be reducing my effective braking surface!!!!!!! :?
could someone put my mind to rest as to how the dba rotors would be a benifit to my braking even though im losing surface area!!!
cheers

don't let 347 get to ya.

Slotted disks are an improvementin braking. Shaved two meters of my 60-0 distance from stock disks to slotteds (same Lucas brand pads, which I'd upgraded first).

The extra benefit from slotted disks don't come from normal braking, but from when you jump on them, the slots 'bite' the pad harder, effectivly tearing at it more - adding mechanical grip to the normal friction of the pad.

but on the other side of the coin, slotted rotors can act like a cheese gratter to brake pads, I've seen guys getting 20000 to 30000 kays out of a set of ebc greens only cause of the slots chewwing at the pads.. 347 is right in that no real gain is had until heavy and repeated braking is done, instead, you might wanna look at well ventilated rotors, I think DBA has a rotor called a kangaroo paw, I got em on my car, excellent performance, EBC green pads, dot 5 fluid and stainless braided lines, the car get put on race tracks fairly often and braking performance is awesome, no fade, no warping, just consistant and reliable braking, these cars run abs anyway, if I can consistantly hamer my brakes with the abs running overtime and do it again and again for 10 to 15 laps at a time, then I see no real gain in going to slotted, slotted or cross drilled rotors also have an inherant issue of cracking or distorting, the gas slots can act as a weak point in the disc and allow hairling fractures to develop, this can lead to warping easier and cracking, gas slotted rotors have no road braking gain, and if the point was to be really pushed on the road the discs can also prove to be detrimental to the cars stopping ability as you are ultimately removing surface area, they look good but, and if you want em for cosmetic reasons, go for it, but be aware there is no significant gain to be had from em..

I've run gas slotted, cross drilled, cross drilled and gas slotted, solids, conventional ventilated and now the kangaroo paw DBA's and there has been marginal if any difference between any of them but slots and drilled greatly improve pad wear..

Wanna stop better, get some good pads, good fluid, and some good rubber... no point using the brakes if your s**t rubber is only gonna slide before the maximum pressure can be extracted from your brake setup...

rant over..

cheers,

if you read this far, buy yourself a beer.

novilist..

What are these Kangaroo Paw discs likely to cost? I need new discs up front and these look like they might fit the bill.

All DBA rotors to suit Falcons are made with the Kangaroo paw ventilation design.

How does the type of brake fluid, whether it's old or new, affect braking?
