Hi
My xf ute max's out at 3100 rpm during gear changes.Have EF motor, EA/EB1 T5 gearbox and 2.92 diff, 14 inch rims. It has struggled before on the 250 EFI crossflow as well. Do ya's reckon going to a later model T5 box with a bit different ratio's might help this? I cant make good use of BBM install cause i cant get to the switching point. Have good leads/plugs/injectors/new pump/pod filter. |

Gearbox will not govern the engine.
are you running LPG?

its obviously something that was on the car before you did the motor swap and is on this car, if you have a gas setup it could need some attention, or maybe try moving your floor mat from under the accelorator pedal

yeah, the bbm switches when its in neutral and i rev from the throttle body, although its screamin its tits off, I'll check the cat but its a different exhaust again with this engine

i dont suppose the fuel lines are too small maybe, although it would die and splutter if it was fuel shortage wouldn't it? the fuel lines are from a ZL fairlane, the pump is standard E series

fuel lines wouldnt cause it to not rev past 3000 rpm,
check your accelorator cable isnt stretched or something, get someone to put their foot on the pedal and you look to see if the throttle body butterfly is fully opened,

yeah the throttle opens up full, i am still convinced a different ratio gearbox will help, i'll find out saturday if i am wrong, it is the only common part used with the 3 different engines.

blocked cat +1
more power is enough to turn a suspect one inside out every time in my experience. T5 boxes aren't that dissimilar to give you an extra 1000rpm on gear changes. My au one isn't that much different to my ea, other than 1st gear which is shorter in earlier models. Unless I've misunderstood, in that case hand me the pelican, i'm fairly inebriated.

gearbox ratio wont stop the engine from reving...
you havnt said wether or not you have changed the fuel filter?? |

i havent changed fuel filter for about 6 months, is it likely to block up already? i guess that depends on s**t fuel , tank condition etc, i did notice that the fuel pump was magnetised some how ( are they supposed to be?) and there were metal filings clinging to it, i replaced it.
i'll put a new filter on it anyway and see what happens. |

that all depends on the fuel and whats been in the tank?
have you been running e10 in it at all? while the e10 wont hurt your engine the ethenol content does have high cleaning properties, so any build up in the tank will be removed and can clog the filter.. |
