I would like to know if it is possible to add a function to my auto transmission via its auto computer; a button to be depressed which will tell the auto computer to hold the gear it is currently in until the button is let go.
Is that possible? What would need to be done?

You'd certainly be pioneering something here vic.

Could be done via VSS. I have a switch on mine that when thrown, cuts the VSS signal going to the ECU. The box then refuses to change gears on its own accord - not up, not down.

i.e. you must manuall select the gear. Unfortunately this locks out ODfor some reason.

But.. perhaps.. if you were in gear and had a button which disconnected the VSS signal whilst depressed - the TCM may hold the current gear?

not an answer, but the Kia Carnival that my boss owns has that function - a button on the shifter handle and 'HOLD' comes up on the dash, keeping the car in current gear.

just thought you might like to know! :P

Vehicle speed sensor.

Goes from the dash to the TCM. White wire IIRC...

If TCM doesnt know what speed the car is doing then it doesnt know when to change gears :) TPS, speed and RPM are the key inputs for TCM to make its decisions...

Well if you've done it, then it works fine?

If played around with it but for a different purpose... when i kill the VSS signal, the gearbox will not change gears unless i tell it to. Along the lines of a manual s**t box.

Im not sure what will happen if you go turning the VSS on and off whilst you're driving along :) As i mentioned... you'd be pioneering something here....

Hmmm.
Just want it to hold the same gear it's in when I press the button and won't allow it to change up or change down until I release the button.
