Hi there i am currently looking at replacing my au ute engine. I am thinking a vct engine is the better way to go but am unshore as to the wiring and the engine computer differences if any. Any help here would be much appreciated cheers.

There are wiring, plug and I think some sensor differences between series 1 and series 2.
The ECU normally controls the cam phaser solenoid, but Jaycar (or electronics gadget stores) sell these little DIY kits, they're called RPM switches or something like that. You could use one of those RPM switches to control what the ECU would usually do, that way you wouldn't have to worry about the wiring loom and ECU differences. I've heard of other people doing this with AU VCT engines. Also, if i remember correctly you can run VCT engines without the cam phaser connected, it would run like a non-VCT engine obviously. I believe there are issues if the engine speed is greater than 3800 RPM or whatever speed the cam phaser normally activates at?
