I have just ordered a set of 17" BA XR8 in PRE-AU offset and i didn't get the tyre package with it. I have spoken to a local provider and they have quoted me on Bridgestone Supercats for $160each and $175 for the Firestones.

They quoted me on
235/45R17 97W
But the guy i ordered them from had
235/45ZR17 97W

Does this Z make a difference in the sort of tyre i should be buying.
Locally they only stock Bridgestone and i don't do any sort of racing so what should work for me the best?

When in doubt, google it out.

The letters is in regard to the "radial ply construction".

R = 170km/h MAX speed on tyre.
Z = 240km/h MAX speed on tyre.

Nope, thats incorrect, the R simply means its a radial tyre.
ZR is a carry over from back when Z was the max speed rating, they just started slapping it on tyres to denote them as performance oriented, thats how I understand it anyway.

The "W" is the speed rating, so they are both rated to 270km/h.

With the prices you were given for the 2 brands of tyre my choise would be to go for the firestone as the supercat was released as the budget tyre for bridgestone, although still very good performance they dont have the same tread depth as others.
