G'day all, I have lowered my EL wagon. I used King springs front and rear. (just lows, not super lows or whatever) I have replaced all the dampers with Munroe sensatracs. I have upgraded the front sway bar with a Whiteline product. I have replaced my uni joints (both), I have replaced 1 engine mount, I have replaced the g'box mount. But I still get vibrations.
It happens between 90 kph and 110 kph. I can feel it thro' the floor. If I am cruising @ 107kph, it vibrates. It feels like a tailshaft vibe. If I am on the over-run, it vibrates, and I can feel it thro' my feet, and it feels as tho' it's on the drivers side of the floor. If I knock it out of gear (auto) the vibration stops. HEEEELLLPPP!!!! Has anybody experienced these things?? Has anybody come up with a fix???? |

Mate, I so feel for you right now.
My EF XR6 manual had exactly the same thing, and I never worked it out. I balanced and eventually replaced the tailshaft - No good! I repalced the uni's - No good! I replaced the extension housing bush - No good! I replaced the clutch - No good! I rebuilt the diff - No good! Sold the car - GOLD.....vibration gone! Good luck mate, I hope you succeed where I failed!

I drove my XR6 for the first time since the Climate/Trip and Power Window conversion today and noticed a bad vibration at 160kmh, never notice that before.....

have a look at what you lower and upper control arm bushes are like on that side, also have you ball joints checked. cos it sounds like its in the suspension if the noise is coming from one side.

Bloody hell philladdis, you do inspire confidence!!!
Ball jointsd o.k., replaced 12 mths ago. I don't know if it is only coming from one side, all I know is i can feel the vibes under my feet on the over-run. Almost as tho' the zorst was rubbing the floor, but it's not. I checked. At least a fist sized gap between floor and zorst. It feels like a tailshaft vibe when cruising. On the over-run, knock it out of gear and it stops. |

Whats the angle between propshaft and axle. Since you have lowered it this will have changed. Also check upper and lower rear swing arm bushes they can cause vibes when car is lowered if they are buggered .
Just a thought

I have this too. And I have been studying a fix before I start trying to solve this problem tomorrow, when my mech takes it for a spin.
Try this one guys. The car is fairly quiet going up through the gears, gets to 71kmh or so and when 4th gear (auto) kicks in under load the horrible booming vibrations start. And gets worse when I hit 80kmh. Then it just hums with the booming going up and down in pitch slightly. Like a hum. If I take her to 90 and over the humming starts to fade away. If the load comes off at 80 the hum fades. I sat in the back for a while on the weekend and let my sister drive and it sounded like a f**k truck in the back seat. The diff is quiet, seems to be around the auto area maybe where the shaft meets the auto. Horrible, couldn't hear the stereo at one stage, it's louder in the back seat and quieter in the front. Diff was rebuilt a month ago. All wheel bearing are good. All shocks are original (167,000k's) need replacing. Maybe springs while I'm at it. Little clunks in front rack every now and then. I did the swaybar bushes 2 weeks ago. |

I believe this is true deano, and I believe Whiteline put out the correct control arms. What I really need to know is how to fix it on a leaf spring rear. I have tried tilting the diff slightly by putting a 5 mm piece of steel under the diff housing spring plates, but it doesn't seem to work. Or maybe the diff housing needs to be shimmed more.

I suppose there is still some space at the sliding joint at the gearbox end of the prop shaft ?????? Its not touching the gearbox housing. Just a thought

my car has superlows, and have yet to get this vibratioin, although my old red eb had cut springs was majorely slammed, and the only problem i had with that was cause it was so low the tailshaft was moving forwards over bumps and hitting the box, and i went through about 3 extension housing bushes/seals
