Gday, Well whenever Im on the freewayin my XB and cruise up to about 3000rpm I get a intermittent vibration through the car. I mean it goes "vib....nothing..nothing....vib....nothing..nothing...vib.....nothing..nothing....vib" etc. This only happens at 3000 when im driving. Im tipping its the driveshaft out of balance? Any ideas? I know its not the harmonic Balancer because it vibrated even with the old motor in it. Tyres have been balanced too. What do u think?

could it be a small case of fuel starvation perhaps? do you feel any jerking or is it just a noise?

my ute has this problem, i put new tyres on the back, got the tailshaft balanced and that reduced it, but it's still there.

You say you changed motors yes? remove the rear of the driveshaft from the diff only and rotate 180 degrease. Can almost guarantee it has been refitted with the lighter sides of imbalance matched on the ends. If rotating the rear only improves slightly rotate the front only then by 180 degrease, remember to mark the location on the rear.

What sort of a vibration is it? a shake like from wheels or a deep buzzing vibration? If its a deep buzzing vibration its likely to be the driveshaft. Check for missing balance weights on both ends of the shaft or any obvious damage like dints or deep scratches. If you have a dial indicator measure the runout in the centre of the shaft as its spun, should be no more than 0.45 mm. If so have it straightened and re-balanced.
