Hey guys.
I want to get my new cam installed. But every time I get quotes from workshops they're all asking $350+ for the install. Does anyone know any good work shops or mechanics in Melbourne that don't over charge, and do a great job? Any advice would be great, thanks.

Not sure if that is overpriced, but putting a cam in does take an effort if haven't done before. I say an hour to 2 hour job depending how fast one can remove all the parts around it and then put everything back...and if they replace the rocker cover gasket as well then sounds about right.
Don't expect it to cost you about $50 - 100 though... phong =P~

whilst you would think it shouldnt cost that much, and ive changed the cam in my car a few times..... it still takes time, especially if a vernier gear must be fitted and the cam dialed in.... even then you cant trust the balancer mark so true TDC must be measured.
And if they arent cluey enough to keep tension on the chain, then they gotta remove the power steering pump and bracket and muck around with the tensioner. If its a regrind they gotta shim the lifters, and regardless they 'should' fit new plastic retainers to each HLA as the old ones would be non-existant by now, and a new rocker gasket if yours is old. But having said that, if the cam is a billet and doesnt need to be dialed in then do it yourself.... costs are: rocker gasket..........$50.... only if yours is old or damaged hla clips..................$30.... optional but recommended |
