I got this from www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/myvehicle/s ... /susp.html
Modifications to be suspension system are subject to the following : 1. Cutting, welding, heating or bending of any suspension component is not permitted. 2. Any shortening or resetting of springs must be carried out by a recognised spring maker. 3. A vehicle must not be lowered more than 1/3 of the bump clearance originally specified by the vehicle manufacturer and the distance measured from the ground to the lower edge of the reflecting surface of the headlamp must not be less than 500mm. 4. Lowering of a vehicle should be equal front and rear to retain the original horizontal plane. 5. No part of a vehicle or accessories (except flexible mud flaps) shall project below the lower edge of a wheel rim. Having posted that does anyone know what the specified bump clearance of an EL Falcon is? Last edited by Timmeh on Fri May 20, 2005 2:15 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

I know when i was yellow stickered so years ago, i was told to raise mine up because the eyebrow high was to short ( eyebrow - distance from guard to center of wheel bearing ). The measurement i was given was that of an xr to raise it too.

Seems in WA (and AFAIK, VIC) you can lower by 1/3 of the original bump height. But is that of a GLi or can the XR bump travel be used as a basis of the measurement ? Cheers. |

I'd say you could argue the point depending on the car you drive. With my XR i'd definitely 'argue' in relation to stock XR height, not stock EL height as an XR6/8 is an official model variation and is registered/plated etc as a different vehicle....sure that'd give me enough of a loop to hole outta

I found it impossible to get a straght answer. I have been told that it is 1/3 of the original height of the base model, However later DOT told me it was 1/3 the height of the vehicle as it left the factory.
I have super low's on my EF and i'd argue if they tried to sticker me for it. (vehicle left factory with tickford susp and tickford wheels) I belive the standard 6cly non ticford GLI bump stop travel to be 100mm at the front, Dont shoot me if im wrong though

i've been told you need to have 100mm from the lowest point of the car to the ground, and the tyres can't be 'under' the guards... i really don't wanna have a cop look at my suspension

Give the DPI a call and ask to speak to a technical advisor. Ask them specifically what the minimum eye brow height is without needing approval, write them down and take them to your suspension shop. they should be able to match your figures.
in theory, as the DPI gave you those figures you should be able to talk your way out of a roadside interegation with the police. just be careful with your language as police may take it as a challenge to defect you car. i called ford australia for the bump stop clearence and they said they did not have that info listed, which makes it hard for us that wish to abide by the law and modify legally.

nice
i was thinkin the same rim for mine but got no cash for it ah well stockies for me!! just to let you know i found the figures i got off the DPI, they said to me i can lower my car without approval according to the following eye brow heights 350mm front, 340mm rear, so i did and it is great. lovell low front and super low rear, kyb shocks, camber kit dont go off my figures, definately try and squezze the info outn of the DPI so you have some solid numbers to go off, but these are the numbers they gave me so i used em. one thing how ever after ilowered the car it developed a vibration im still looking for, i have been told that the change in pinion angle after lowering is the cause, so ill try and sort that out soon but yeah, suspension is the best money i have ever spent on a car. i had one occupant who took her for a spin and said it felt "BMW ish". smiles all round. where you getting it done?

WA Suspension Centre. They are very helpful over the email and suggest I come in to discuss it more thoroughly. I'm going tomorrow to see them.
I'm leaning towards the Bilsteins and Lovells. Where is this eye brow height measurement taken from? |

Well the car has been lowered now.
I'll get some pics up tomorrow of the before and after shots. This is the best handling car I've ever been in now. Bilsteins and Lovells. Dropped 30mm at front and 55mm at back. Back was higher because I removed the heavy duty tow kit on it. Next on the list is DBA slotted all round with EBC greenstuff pads and new bearings all round. |
