Hi guys, just trying to work out what the best thing to do regarding my tailshaft on the wagon is. Will have to have a chat to a tailshaft place, would like to get a few ideas first though
My wagon is an EF XR6, with 1.5" lowering blocks in the rear. With just be in it, its fine, but with 3+ people and camping gear, it has a real issue with tailshaft rub. Hard acceleration in first gets tailshaft contact, and you really have to drive around the problem. What I am thinking is that the 90's commodores had 2-piece tailshafts. They had the same manual gearbox and diff as an E-series, therefore the rear flange and front spline must be the same. The only issue I can see is length, and I am pretty sure a diff place could change the lenght of one of the sections to suit. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing, or seen it done? Thoughts? |

Ausedwagon has a 2 piece shaft in his car. Might be a Commodore item. Check his build thread.

You need better springs....ones where the spring rate goes up as you put more gear in.

He said he doesn't know what it was, it does look like a commodore tailshaft to me though. cjh wrote: You need better springs....ones where the spring rate goes up as you put more gear in. True that would be another fix for it. I do have XR6 springs in it though, which already have an extra leaf in them. There may be other choices that would fit it, if anyone has suggestions on harder (and/or progressive) springs that fit the wagons, that would be appreciated. |

What about air shocks?
Are they suitable for cars? I had a set in my F100 and they worked a charm.

May need a couple of the lower leaves from a ute spring .....???
