Hi, Finally got around to replacing my warped brake rotors. Got my rotors from Perth Brake parts, can't remeber the price cos I got em a couple of days ago and got my wheel bearings from coventrys (usually don't like coventrys but they had em on hand so I went to them). Was A lot easier than I was expecting, and saved me lots on the 400ish dollars Auto Masters quoted me. Pretty much just pulled off the rotors, and put the new ones on, with lots of new grease. I used a G clamp to push the brake piston back in (was worried I'd have to bleed the brakes, but my broher tells me that it (El Fairmont Ghia) automatically bleeds the brakes) so it all turned out well

Yeah i done mine about 2 months ago or so, the job is easy as to do, as long as you know what your doing and what s**t you need.

Costs me about $320-350 for slotted rotors all round and good pads. well worth the investment IMO

But you should have just gotten your warped rotors, hit them with a hammer, and bend them so they feel right again. :lol:

Now that's funny :lol: :lol:

The only reason you don't need to bleed the brakes is because you haven't opened the hydraulic system of the brakes to air. Nothing to do with the model of car it is.
When you push the piston back the brake fluid returns to the master cylinder reservoir, unless you open the bleeder no air can get into the system. Care needs to be taken not to overflow the reservoir.

in relation to this topic ( i hope ) :) im having a slight problem with my ef that when i brake or turn right it makes a grinding sound which sounds like its the rotor, ive changed both the pads and the bearings and it still does it, the sound isnt as bad while just turning right but its still there, any help would appreciated before i go out and spend more money than i need to.

does the steering wheel shake when you apply the brakes?

it doesnt vibrate at all, so i have no idea unlees the discs need to be machined perhaps ?

ive got the same problem. i machined my front disc and now when i turn left or right i hear a grinding sound. Its most likely the brake pads just wearing them selfs in.

Didnt you change your pads? If so they are just wearing in. Doesnt matter if you didnt machined the discs. But i could be wrong.

yeah i changed the pads, but the noise was already there before hand and the pads i removed still had a heap of meat on them, so its got me totally buggered :|

Maybe a worn spindle and the bearing inner race is spinning on it.

Regarding the steering shaking whilsts braking, with my EL for a long time that was happening to me, i thought it may have been warped rotors but was actually worn radius rod bushes and the whole stub axle assembly was bouncing back and forth.
